Nex 7 owners: Would you buy again at this time or ......

.....would you opt for a Fuji X1-pro, Panasonic X1, an Olympus OMD or wait for a new Sony 7N?
I wouldn't mind getting another NEX 7. Save me from swapping lenses and gear from macro to birds all the time. Be very happy with another NEX-7, but I don't think the wife would be :) ;)

this is the right question because I bought my nex7 the first day it appeared in france ; I allready had Nex 5N
after a few days I decided to sell nex 7 and keep 5N

I next week bought my second nex 7 : I misssed the awesome cropability of 24MP and the exceptional pleasure it is to hold this camera

the fuji pro has'nt the tilt screen that I so much enjoy and theOM5 should not be as good as nex 5N as far as dynamic is concerned

I appreciate all the answers here. I have a Panasonic FZ20 and recently gave away my Panasonic GF1 to my daughter since she was about to give birth. In the past I have had a Sony 707. I think that was around 2003. My FZ20 was around 2005. I am not prone toward any particular manufacturer. The Nex-7 produced some real buzz in the photographic world and just wanted to hear what the owners have to say with the introduction of so many new cameras. On the Micro four/thirds forum Olympus owners rave about the out of camera jegs and colors. I just am drawn to the Nex-7 and can't explain it. I plan to buy within the next month.

nothing more to say

There is 1 big disadvantage of the NEX-7 in my view: It has sooooo many settings but no way to store several camera configurations.

But I'm almost sure that if enough people complain about this, Sony will address this in a future FW.

I just did. My Nex-7 was overheating. I had an X1-Pro and three lenses on order... and got in early with the lenses and saved $250.. cancelled the Fuji. If Leica comes out with a B&W only camera... that will be interesting. Replacement NEX-7 arrives today. Great camera with Zeiss lens and legacy lenses.

I used to buy a new camera every 12-18 months. The nice thing about the NEX is that it comes very close to being a full replacement for my much larger and much much heavier Canon DSLR.

There's no such thing as the perfect camera, there are trade offs with all of them, however some of the features on the NEX like the EVF among many others definitely make it a strong contender for the best camera to come out for the 2011/2012 buying season if you are looking for a compact APS-C sensor camera.

I absolutely agree!

I'll stay with the 7 for now, only a larger than APS-C sensor would pique my intrest.

Nex-7 again.

Nex-7N, or Nex-6N, would have been a preferred choice, but I understand why the Nex-7 matches the A77 (sensor wise) and why Sony pushed pixel density.

X1-pro is a no-go -- especially after seeing initial on-line reviews.

OMD is interesting, but only for IBIS with video or tele, I don't need this for my type of usage, plus I have no interest in the M43 sensor otherwise (crop factor, IQ, DOF, bokeh and so on). .

The Panny GX1 seems interesting, especially when coupled with the new mythical compact 'X' lenses, but it makes for a rather expensive package. I rather purchases lenses for the Nex system - as the Panny is also M43.

What else to get? - There are really no alternatives out there today :)
  • except for the 5N, and I am keeping the 5N.

You know there's a reason it has generated so much buzz. ;)

You know what? I went into the camera shop with the intention of buying a GX1 to replace my broken LX5. Then I saw the NX7 and, only out of curiosity, asked to look at it.

As soon as I held it the camera felt just right in my hands. By comparison the Gx1 felt awkward.

It was love at first feel. All the other attributes of the 7 only came to my attention later when I started using the camera. No regrets!

All I need now is some outstanding lenses to make the most of the camera's potential. The Sel50f18 is coming soon and I'd love to see a better 16mm than the SEL16 I have. If not I'll save up for the Leica WA'TE.

That's pushing it though.

It'll most likely be as big as the SEL50F18 or bigger though.

That's fine by me, lenses, such as the Zeiss 24mm, need to start be developed with the NEX-7's sensor in mind, as it's their flagship camera. Just basing resolution off of MFT50 charts, the sensor is the bottleneck for the SEL5018, not the lens (though it is by no means even a mediocre lens on the 7, I wish I had not sold mine).

If the inevitable 35mm f/1.4-2 doesn't perform up to snuff with the NEX-7, then we'll run into some big problems, as the Zeiss will still be the only lens that outresolves the sensor.

Oh, and on the size, the NEX-7 is a lot more substantial in the hands than the 5n, I wouldn't mind a larger lens at all. I never considered the N7 to be pocketable anyway.

Fwiw - the SAL35F18 works very well on both 5 and 7

I hope that the SEL version will include OSS (for video).

I expect a f/1.8.

Right, but I have to get the clunky LAEA-2 adapter for that. :) I'm not THAT desperate for a 50mm equiv....yet...

If it is optimized for wide open, I'd be super happy with 1.8 and OSS.
