Here's some action from the match between PSV Eindhoven and Valencia C.F. from last Thursday in the UEFA Europe League.

Valencia C.F. did win the first match with 4-2. The second game in Eindhoven ended in a 1-1 draw, so Valencia C.F. is the club that goes through to the next round.

Still PSV played a good second match and played well today (5-1 victory against S.C. Heerenveen) too under the new coach (Philip Cocu).

All taken with the 7D.

Here's some action from the game:

Excellent images. I would love to be in your shoes and have a chance to take some pictures from up close!

Hi Tim.

Excellent set of pictures. I also have a 7D and am curuous about your auto-focus settings. You probably used AI Servo. Did you use 1 single dot or expanded auto-focus?

Deon

What's your set up here, I'm guessing 400 2.8 , in the 7 d , what settings, I see no noise in these
The exif answers some of your questions (I browse in Chrome and use the rather good ExifViewer but equally good extensions are available for most browsers)

I haven't checked them all but looks like they were shot in Manual at 1/1000, action shots at f2.8. ISO varied between 1000 and 1600. I'm guessing the camera was using auto ISO. Hope this helps.

I've pasted some of the exif information from one of Tim's shots here:

Whats " pattern" metering?
A quick google says it's another name for evaluative metering but I think they may have tweaked how pattern works and changed the name.

My T2i/550D has evaluative, centre-weighted average, partial and spot. Simply put:
  • Evaluative looks at the whole frame but is strongest around whatever focus point you've selected.
  • Centre-weighted average does essentially the same but around weighted to the central focus point.
  • Partial exposes for an area in the centre.
  • Spot exposes for a smaller area in the centre.

Tim, very good! Wow, the lighting must have been pretty good to keep the iso levels down at those shutter speeds. So you were shooting jpeg fine 4? I enjoyed your site.

Very good job.
Cheers,
