With the sell of my GF2, I'll be able to get into new camera. I can even "borrow" the money (wifey's saving account FTW) prior to the sell, but would have to return it. The bad thing is... I can't get rid of the darn thing.

Yeah, it's not an amazing camera, it's not the first of it's kind nor the best, it's not even really known for anything because it's shadowed by the awesomeness of the initial GF1 and the tiny little brother, the GF3. It's frustrating to deal with setting an external flash manually, it's a PITA wondering if the LVF1 is going to fall off (again) and get lost, it's annoying not being able to take pictures above ISO400, it's even more annoying trying to hold the camera for long with anything other than a pancake. But why oh why do I find it so hard to get rid of?!

Initially, I put the camera up with the 14mm pancake and a some other "junk" for $600. I understand that that was probably a bit much, but hell, I thought it was worth it. I got about a dozen bites.... all for the lens though, =(. I even attempted to sell the body only for $250 when I lost my LVF1. I got a bite and actually ignored it and deleted the posting (craigslist).

I'm on the verge of selling my 25/1.4 and picking up the 20/1.7 in order to have the funds for a second body, rather than a replacement. Unfortunately, the 25/1.4 is my favorite lens!

ARGGHHH!!!!

I want the GH2. GX1 is a close second, especially with the awesome deals at Uniquephoto. Kind of scared that if I go with the GH2, I'll miss the compactness of the GF2. If I go with the GX1, I'm scared I'm not going to feel it was enough of an upgrade to justify spending $600 more (GF2+LVF1 vs GX1+LVF2). Maybe I can buy the GX1 with the 25/1.4 ($1059) and sell separately for the extra cash, then pick up the GH2. Feels kind of sleazy though.

IDK... anyone else have problem getting rid of their gear? I can't seem to justify any camera to replace the GF2. I went through a brief stage of craving for the EM-5 as well (that grip is sexy!). But with the lack of any deals for it or any type of money saving choices, it's not really a contender. The GH2 is popping up here and there with sub $600 prices already and the GX1 has mix and match savings as well.

I've actually been planning a body upgrade for a while. I'm too hesitant though to purchase something that I'll feel isn't right for me within a month. I purchased the Oly45 when I gave up back in January. Then in Feb, I bought the P14. I have a feeling I might be getting another lens here soon... lol.

I have went over this a couple of times.

I still have my E-P1, and if I can scrape up the money I will upgrade to the E-M5 since it is a solid upgrade on all points.

First time was when the E-P2 came out, basically the same camera as mine, but with the VF-2... I went back and forth a few times, even tried to sell my E-P1 to see how much more cash I needed for the E-P2 but I didn't because I could not sell it for enough to justify only getting a VF extra...

Then it was E-P3 that was so much faster in AF and also had the VF-2, but now I could get even less for my E-P1 and I would not get much better image quality as the sensor is all but the same (safe for the readout speed used for faster AF)

Then I picked up a G3 and tried it out as it would be faster AF, have better image quality and an EVF. However I didn't quite like the EVF as much as the VF-2 and I did not like the controls at all, so I ended up still keeping my E-P1 and not upgrading there either.

Now the E-M5 comes along, with a solidly better EVF than the VF-2, better image quality, and a better build and apparently better feel. I will have to test it in a shop again, to see if it fits me, and then I think I will keep my E-P1... Just because it is not worth much now... Hopefully it will be a nostalgic fashion statement in 40 years and I can sell it and buy a hoverboat or something :D

Consider a G3 as a compromise...especially if you do not need the extensive GH2 video capability. Or you could wait until next April. After the GH3 ships, they will be completing their runs of the GH2. I was able to pick up a new GH1 for $300 that way from Samy's and the serial number indicated the camera was manufactured in January of 2011, so some of the last ones produced. So I am behind in technology, but the GH1 still does great things...

Put my GF2 with Oly 14-42 kit lens up for $300. It is almost new... got it in Nov 2011. Sold it in one day.

Will sell the 14mm separate.

Best way is get a browser plugin to block this site and never come on again; unless if you need video there wont be any big difference; it's browsing this site and its forums that makes you want a new camera for no reason (I should also block this site...).

This (what jpp said) and NEVER EVER would I borrow money to get something as unnecessary as a new camera! And to think of owing to my wife/gf? I'd die in shame! Either I can easily afford it, then fine, or not, then some other time, or never. Simple as that

I'm having this problem with my Nikon gear, which I have used exactly once since I bought a G1 2 1/2 years ago. I finally parted with my 18-200 lens, but that was easy as I never liked it. But it's hard to sell off the rest of a system I took great care to build, though now that I have both feet in m4/3 I know I'll never upgrade the Nikon body and thus have little use for the lenses and related stuff. Like GAS, it's a problem.

It's sometimes tough to accept how much less one's used gear is worth than what it cost new. Best to take some time looking at eBay and watching auctions of similar gear to see what it actually sells for. It's only "worth" what a willing buyer will pay for it, unless you decide that it's worth more than that to you to keep it.

A few months back I bought on eBay a little-used GF1, the 20mm and 14-45mm lenses, and the VF1 viewfinder, all for $645. I had watched several auctions of the GF1 and 20mm lens going in the range of $500 to $550. So, yeah, asking $600 for the GF2 and 14mm was probably overly optimistic.

I still have my first digital camera, an Oly C3040z. I think I paid about $650 for it in 2001 or so, 3MP, fast lens (1.8, I think). I'm sure it's worthless on the market today, and I keep it in my car's glove compartment, where it's worth at least something to me.

Selling Ability (of Gear)?

I had it for sale with a the LVF1 and a SnapR35 bag as well as a Minolta lens w/ adapter and SD card, hood, and other accessories.

I think that because the gf2 is my first camera, I'm having a hard time letting go. I went through a similar thing with my first bowling ball and my first guitar.

Well, there's some things I'm trying to accomplish in photography that the GF2 is incapable of accomplishing. Well, I guess it's not entirely incapable, but I would much prefer a better rendering of it anyways (ISO above 400). Also, I really want to explore more into the world of flash photography and the GF2 is very limiting in that regard.

As for "borrowing" money from the wifey, it's not technically hers. It's the money we have put away to purchase an Nissan Frontier in cash. We're still a good year and a half from actually using it. Also, I'll only be "borrowing" $300, which I'm like 90% sure I can get for the GF2 + LVF1 + 14mm. I also have 2 guitars that I'm restoring at the moment that'll bring in about $500 of disposable income... If I'm guilty of anything, it's basically the impatience of not waiting for these two guitars to sell.

LVF1 used (via Amazon) about $115
GF2 w 14mm used (via Amazon) about $385

Together, $500

The rest is not worth much of anything to anyone else unless they are specifically looking for the Minolta lens and adapter . You'd probably be better off selling them separate.

If you asked just $375 for the GF2 and 14mm someone would probably snap it up. $400 and you'd probably sell it quickly.

Oh I LOVE THIS!!!!

PS....I had the same problem with my Nikon gear. I ended up selling everything about 9 months after getting my first M43....except for a Tamron 90mm macro lens. Finally, about two months after that, I said to myself....are you REALLY going to use that on the GH2? Answer; NO. So I sold that too, and bought a 45mm f 1.8 instead :).

It just took a while to cut the cord completely.....

You don't have GAS/Anti-GAS, you have UGPD. Used-Gear Price Disillusionment. You posted this a while ago ... just look on eBay and find the average of the last 4 sales. That's what it's worth. Price it $10 under that amount it and will sell immediately.

Just remember the longer you hold onto it the less it's worth. Every camera that comes out from now on will have the newer 16mpx sensor, all of the older cameras will just get cheaper and cheaper. Which is great! If you're buying one to use.

I'm kind of surprised that you couldn't sell it for that.

I just sold a GF2+14mm for $400. It was on Craiglist for about a month and I dropped the price from $500 to $450 to $430.

Yeah, I'm sticking to local. Ebay is frustrating to me. Portland's Craigslist takes a little longer to sell, even if I am under FMV.

Well, I hear the next GF will still be sporting the 12MP sensor... Probably to keep costs down.

Doesn't matter. Craigslist buyers are aware of eBay prices and they won't pay above them. That's the facts!
