Show Your Snaps...March 12, 2012

Your pictures are interesting with a variety of architecture and people. Is your EXIF data correct? It seems that you were using a lot of high F-stops and low shutter speeds. What was your reason for doing that? I'm intrigued by that, because that's some of the things that I would do, just to see what the pictures would look like...even though I know that it might be outside the "sweet spots" of the lens.

Oh, is that the reason...I thought this specie suffers from ego personalities, look at the way (in the 2nd pic) it admires it's own coat of feathers as it spreads it out - show-off is the word. :O :) (just kidding...)
Those birds do look good with their wings spread out. I heard they are letting them dry out, in places where I've taken their pictures.

Digirame there is not much science behind it, maybe I have to admit the reason is more like lack of attention and taking photos in a hurry since I was inside my car in most of the shots I took (exception are the shots at the temple, which are majority in the series I shared here. I started taking the photos of the small town wanting to have foreground and background (mountains) in focus and sharp (like the one with the blue gazebo at the park). I was shotting in M and had a high f-stop and adjusted the shutter speed to get the best luminosity, guided by the viewfinder indicator. To be frank, I need to confess I do not know what is the sweet spot of my lens, where can I find it? Definitely, I had some chalenge when I had some moving objects in the pictures. Saying this, let me ask what do you thing on the final result?

Sailors have more fun!

But very old ones. I took them back in 2009 with my Pentax K10D in my country. I'm homesick :(

On of the best vacations with my family ever.

Your picture of the cat is nice...nice & sharp. The cat seems to look at the photographer and say, "What are you doing?"
Thank you for kind reply.

I'm personally a little bit dissatisfied with framing of the picture. There is a bit too much free space to the right. What do you think?

That's very nice sunset pics, Martin...my fav is #3 with the more extensive golden glow. :)

Thanks :)

I got some probs with DP gallery- I think I accidentally deleted the image :D

Meanwhile I decided to go with rev.2 which had more symmetry in it. Argh, I'm waiting so much for the spring and the summer!!1

I saw your picture earlier today at work, but I now see it's gone. That ice...the way it is wrapped around...was interesting.

You captured the bird - or what ever it is - really nice. The feathers look like it's wearing either an reptile skin or some kind of super-hi-tech scifi armor -- plated with nano cells like in Crysis...
One of the big birds from the SG Zoo...I find their feathers very impressive, especially when it's spread out as in the 2nd pic...

Yes, I know what you mean...we've had so much rain lately here in Oregon. I'm looking forward to our summer months.

For a little better composition, I think if you took a small amount off on the top & the right and maintained the same height and width ratio...that might be an improvement...try it...and see what it would look like.

I like to check the SLR Gear website for the sweet spots of the lens. Find your lens or one like it, and click the blur index. Slide the focal length up and down, with different aperture settings. That helped me a lot with one of my telephoto lenses. I noticed some soft images that I was taking at full focal length and less than F9, and what I found on the blur index coincided with what I was experiencing. So then I started using F9 to F18 on my telephoto lens and that helped a lot.

Sometimes people want to spend a lot more money to get a better lens, when really sometimes they just need to understand the limitations of their present lens and the images can look sharper.

It's nice to see your old pictures. I like the first one the best, showing the boat and the people. Is that a fishing boat? It looks pretty long. Since you are homesick, do you think you'll ever move back to Venezuela?

That's a nice picture...sharp & clear. It looks like you have pretty good weather...plenty of blue sky. So are you now going to use the Tamron 18-270mm lens on the Canon T3i on a regular basis? It's nice to have that extra zoom.

Thanks, carnaga, it's a Double Crested Cormorant, from a layman's eyes, it looks like the usual edible duck we see in the markets but multiplied 100 times :) in size. I was captivated by it's feathers too! Cheers.
