I am searching for a MILC (small and portable) to utilize my DSLR lenses and hitting a brick wall in my research due to the lack of experience with video. The goal is to get something cinematic looking on the run in 1080p with a small stabilizer. Which would handle fast movements better? Low light performance is important to me too.

Don't want to spend too much money on video, older models are fine if they can get the job done.

Please help!

GH2 looks amazing but it's out of my $500 price range. Is GH1 any good? What about GFs, can any of them get the job done? Will a Sony NEX do the trick?

I paid $375 for a new GH1 with 14-42mm OIS lens back in Jan 2011 from Panasonic Direct and it had the best video of any MILC under $400 at the time. I purchased my GH2 body in Dec 2010 for $630 so it should be getting down to $500 soon since the GH3 or whatever the GH2 upgrade is called should be out this year.

I just purchased the Pentax K-01 MILC that has IS built-in so all of my Pentax K-mount lenses up to 800mm has IS but it was $749 for the body.

My K-01 with 10-24mm Tamron, Rode Stereo VideoMic and LCDVF :

Panasonic lumix gf2 has been recently hacked, allowing for 1080p25 with 44mbps for a cinema/film like look. True film look is 24fps, but it's not bad for $300 camera. You can shop around and get used or refurb for close to $200 price. Spend the money saved on a legacy lens with an aperture ring and corresponding adapter. Instead of using a true rig, use a gorilla pod with 2 of the legs folded up for handles and one leg folded down towards your chest for support.

I bought the gf2 as an entry level stills an I'm due for an upgrade. I'm having a hard time letting it go though because of the awesome video it provides. I might get a gh2 here soon, but I'm seriously thinking of keeping the gf2 for those risky moments.

Start your search here: eoshd.com and personal-view.com to learn more about vitaliy's hacks and the lumix video capabilities.

in m4/3 there's nothing better than the GH2 or a GH1 if you can't afford the GH2. Some of the GH1's can be hacked to provide higher bit rates.

I used a hacked GH1 on a national TV drama series for special shots and it works really well.

You're asking for something to give you a high end look (cinematic and 1080) but you don't want to spend $$. The GH1 is the one you want.
