Just got my K5 today, upgrading from a K10. Wow what a camera. Weather is lousy outside (don't have weather sealed lenses) so took a bunch of test shots inside. The k10 has one feature that is superior to the K5. It has a locking SD card slot and the K5 doesn't. :-)

Getting my Pentax 540 FGZ to shoot in Pttl mode wirelessly was a challenge until I realized that slave 1 and channel 1 are two different settings....stupid me. Once I set these properly...perfect.

Also updated the firmware from 1.01 to 1.13. Noticed an immediate improvement in low light focus speed and focus lock.

Now a lot of reading the manual but I love doing that so no problem.

Can't wait to get this puppy outside and start tripping the shutter.

Cheers

I got mine yesterday and I share your feeling. What a camera and what a giant leap from K10. I still haven't checked the firmware version on mine, though.

So far I'm most excited about the electronic level adjustment which uses the exposure adjustment scale to show how much you're holding the camera off level. Great feature. Mirror slap is also a big improvement over K10 and AF of course.

There's also a couple of things I don't like. I don't like that they removed the shake reduction lever. I used it a lot on K10 and now I have to go to menus to turn it off. The second is that you can't change ISO in M mode by simply pressing the OK button and turning the front dial. The same goes for exposure adjustment. Somehow it's awkwardly placed for the way I use the camera. It was much easier on K10 to press the EV button with your thumb, hold and turn the front dial. I guess I'll get used to it, but it just seems awkward. I like the position of the green and AF buttons, though.

I received my 2nd K-5 earlier this week.

Soooo cute :D

As Russ says, use the INF button. I accidentally moved the lever on my K10/20 often enough that I'm delighted it's gone. I like the button on the mode dial for the same reason.

I think that's a matter of practice as much as anything. I've just tried the finger-thumb movents for both methods on my K-5 and the ISO button is less of a stretch: with the K10 being bigger I always thought the OK button method was sub-optimal.

Another thing I really like is the review and delete buttons: all I need do is shift my left thumb, rather than move the whole hand.

I've had my K5 for about a month now. I tend to still like the ergonomics of the K10/K20, but I'm getting used to it. The only negatives I see is that the locking chip door was better on the K10/K20. I pulled it out of my bag this morning for example, and the door flipped open.

I'm glad they put the antishake on the menu actually. I lost a number of shots on the K10d when I'd moved it off by accident. (The K20D was better.)

The other thing I miss is the plastic keeper cap on the batteries. I've been putting the spare in a plastic bag with an elastic so the terminals don't get shorted. Slight oversight here I think..

At the end of the day however, feature wise, sensitivity and IQ are superb. Makes me wonder why I waited so long.. (The K10/K20 were no slouches however, but wow!)

Cheers.

I know it can be accessed by using the INFO button, but I've never had problems with the lever. In 5 years of owning K10 I've never moved it accidentally.

Somehow, exactly because K10 is bigger it was easier to click the OK button and use the front dial without moving your eye away from the viewfinder. It can also be done easily on K5 as well, but it will take some getting used to, nothing else.
