eBay Scam?

Did you notice that the feedback is all for purchase--not sales. I guess she went on and bought a bunch of little things to establish a good feedback file.
Beth

If you look at her other sales, you will note that the only bidder on that camera is the same person w/ 0 feedback!
Cheers.. Bruce
There's a camera for sale at eBay for a price that's "too good to
be true." The person selling this camera is a business person
travelling in Spain (with broken English). She needs to ship the
camera from Spain and here's how it can be done to protect seller
and buyer, "THE WAY TO PAY : I do bussines only by Money Gram or
Western
Union
wire transfer I can't accept other methods of payment for the moment
because
I am in Europe in a bussines trip (from here I have this products at
this
incredibiles low prices) and I am forced to accept only wire
transfer.I would
like to use COD or escrow but because I am in a forign country I need
cash
money to reinvest it in other products. ,so look how we can do this,
the
fastest and 100%
secure method for both of us."

How does she get around this one in order to steal the money?
Should I report her to eBay or is there some way this could be on
the level?

Beth

Well that was an interesting little thread.

Did anyone think of telling her that they were just hours away from a business flight to her locality and would she like to meet for a face to face deal.

I have a feeling that 'she' is a 'he' using a woman's name, because some people tend to trust a woman more than a man. Then there's the vision of a little woman trying to keep her little ones in bread and butter...the sympathy factor that might help.

I've seen this happen a few times; One time someone made up a
couple new ebay accounts (with the name "scambuster45445" or the
like) and bid the auction into the thousands of dollars. After the
auction ends, the seller is on the hook for a percentage of the
ending price - but the buyer was fake. Of course they can submit a
request for a refund - but it takes 48 hours to get the refund -
and I think they take the money from your account immediately, and
I think you have to wait 10 days before asking for a refund.

At any rate - it stops the unknowing people from bidding: "hmmm,
$42459 for a used e10??? I'll pass".
What if the account was hijacked? Now, someone like me gets a bill for $1500! Ahhhh! :)

Btw, I received one of those Algerian letters about a month ago. I kept on sending the guy a fake bank account number and told him I didn't understand why it wouldn't work. After several emails, he gave up (I can't remember how many emails, I lost track). hehehe.

Well Brian, if I knew that he/she actually had the 1D and was willing to sell for $1,400 I'd take a cheap charter tour to Spain and take the deal. I just have a feeling that there won't be any 1D waiting at that address. :-(

Guys and gals, I've been there and done it. These scams were coming up over a month ago. My buddy and I got scamed by some phony in Romania. I have reported it to the FBI and they said there was $17,000,000 in phony internet deals just in the last year. Anything that looks too good to be true stay away!! If it is International insist on using escrow.com, Western Union said it was the only way to deal overseas. Since I got scammed I have traped literally a dozen of these phonies, but I doubt the evidence I sent will do any good.

Beth that write up I have seen many times all from Spain, they must have some kind of scam club over there. Next time ask them if they can throw in a car with the camera, that usually shuts them up quick.

Hello,

I do business with this person before and it turn out great. You have my word. I received a brand new e15 with internaltional warranty. It is better for you to know that all expected parts were encluded. She is honest and even enclude remote shutter cable that some seller try to claim is expensive accessory. Very nice lady with two small children.

Camera arrived two days from Spain while I visited family in Boise Idaho, USA. This is a thing about you shouldn't worry about.

Western Union very safe. Very trusted American company. Not like some companies where cousin can own store. Any problems, you can trust Western Union for full refund. No risks involved for both of us.

When I get back from business trip in Spain, I will show pictures from camera so that you will not fear that I deceive you. Cannot show pictures right now, because I have not Internet connection.

Now that I have my new e15, I would like to sell my Cannon 1DS. Beacuse it seems that you on dpreview are honest, I will sell for $2300. I have had for six months, but was in hospital and have only take ten pictures. Comes with full warranty, no risks involved for both of us. Email me if you agree, and we will have deal.

Just type "Western union" scam ebay into any search engine. It brings up a lot of results, most of which are big ticket items.

It seems that western union doesn't do a great job of verifying the identity of the client receiving the funds. I bet if I wired you $5 to your hometown and named the recipient as George Jungle, you could probably pick it up. It's like a password. What's the password? George Jungle. That's right, here's your $5.

What I don't understand is either Jace Mouse is being sarcastic and the humor eludes me or Jace and this person actually had a transaction. I suppose a picture of the E-15 wouldn't convince me this was on the level... :)

THAT"S GREAT! :)
It is an old scam - I'm actually surprised they are still trying to
do it.

Ehhr.. Hmm... I might get some bad feedback on this one, and I might be wrong, but.... I had a look at previous Jace Mouse posts, and they all contained properly written english (as far as I could tell at least, I'm not a native english speaking person myself, so who knows). Is he being funny, or is this a case of stolen identity. If this IS a joke, well, I think it's fair that this is pointed out, so noone new to this site (and who isn't aware that the E-15 doesn't exist) falls for that obvious scam.

And by the way. The eBay-person posted from Mallorca. This is not mainland Spain, but a very touristic spanish island in the mediterranean (did I get that right? You know what I mean). Tourism and related activites (i.e. sc* ing tourist, time-share villa scams and the like) is the main source of income around there. Which is not to say that there will not be some legitimate business on Mallorca, but in my case, I'd check twice first...

Cheers

A little investigation of Jace Mouse' s profile will reveal that he is 'extracting the urine' A quaint UK expression !!!! It also reveals a fool and his/her money are soon parted.
Anyone who believes a Nigerian Foreign Minister/oil executive/etc has somehow singled them out to hold $20,000,000, and then get 25% or whatever, clearly has 99% greed & 1 % sense, and they deserve whatever they get........

I'm not used to Jace's comments. But as I re-read it, I see that it is probably very likely that Jace writes very good english and I was somewhat fooled. Ah well.

My favorite part was "Very nice lady with two small children." What the heck does that have to do with anything? But it fits perfectly. Oh well, whenever I try that kind of humor it gets passed up by others as well. It's a fine line between hilarious and you aren't serious are you.

Well we all know the scam of welding the front and back of two crash dmaged cars together (they call it a ringer in the uk). Perhaps this person has obtained a damaged E10 and E20 and put all the good bits together to make an E15 !!!
