Hi!

Having bought one card that only works if I push it into the camera after it's started, I'll like to buy another.

I have an opportunity to get a very favourable price on a Pretec card, but it's not listed on their site or on the Mnolta site as 7Hi compatible (that list is very limited though).

Any of you have some experiences/recomendations?

Do you mind telling us which card does not work?

I have 3 lexar cards, and I recently bought a 512 mb, "abomem" or something along those lines. It does not work (shows xxx for pictures remaining) but it works fine in a friend's canon a40. I reformatted it in the a40, and it still does not work in the 7i.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi!

1. The card is suposed to be a Samsung 512 MB. The card itselves has no Samsung name on it so I expect an OEM deal.

2. Try to take out the card, start the camera and wait for 4 sec before you push in the card. That works for this card.

3. Formating - I tried to then formate it in the 7Hi but that made no difference. But is this realy a thorough formating,or should I try to use a CF-reader? The problem is that I doesn't have one...

4. This card also works in other cameraes. What's so special with the Minolta way of using these cards?

I will try that when I go home... either way in the minolta or in my friends canon a40 I am going to try and format it using windows format fat file system... I will let you know what happens... here is some information on a similar forum thread as well:

I have/had that same abomem 512 card, couldn't get it to work for the 7hi. I tried formatting it FAT & FAT32, worked in a canon but not the minolta. So I just sent it back.

Yes....

Putting it in after it is booted works... now the only thing that bothers me is when timesaver kicks in!!!

Hi!

After having rebooted and taken the card in an out 100 times during christmas I've desided to return the card, even if it's going to cost me some money and hassle.

It's to much hasle, and as you mentions the whole thing has to be repeated when the timesaver starts. With the batery capacity being as it is, it's also realy not a good solution to disable this functionality either.

1. Any idea why the Minolta site only list 3 card brands cards as compatible?
2. Are there realy nobody that has a Pretec card out there?

1. Any idea why the Minolta site only list 3 card brands cards as

The reason for this is that not all CF cards fully comply with the CF standard.
2. Are there realy nobody that has a Pretec card out there?
I tested this card (512MB) and it didn't work in my DiMAGE 7. Since you live in Oslo I suggest you go down to Komplett Data in Møllergata and ask to borrow one for a few minutes to test in your 7Hi. Format it, shoot a series of UHS images and then a series of HS TIFF and/or JPEG. Do a TIFF and RAW write speed test (time how long it takes to write TIFF and/or RAW to card).

Hei!

That's a very good idea - Thanks!

What kind of card(s) do you use?

just to throw in my 2 cents: I have a 7hi and went thru this same agony a few weeks ago.

I tested the transcend hi speed 512 card (works intermittently) and the ridata 512 hi speed card which doesn't work at all. Then i bought a viking 512 card and it works fine right out of the box. (not sure if it's a hi speed card or not. don't think so).

I am returning the other two cards after lodging a complaint with yahoo.com which sponsors the supplier mypcmax.com who i purchased the 2 cards from. Previously they had been unresponsive to my calls and emails.

Still haven't had an answer from minolta about why so few cards work in the camera.

so there's my 2 cents.

I use several of the 256MB Cruical CF cards as they're nice and cheap and the company has a compatibility guarantee that they will work with your model.

http://www.crucial.com/

Prices start at US$18 (£12) for a 32MB, to US$87 (£56) for a 256MB

Just ensure you select via the menu for your particular Minolta camera.

Hi!

On http://www.komplett.no the Pretec card is not listed?
I'll send them an e-mail and keep you posted!

Isn't that weird?

I have a D7i. Bought the 512 MB Ridata....works great. Bought a 256 MB Ridata...XXX...doesn't work. Wonder why that is with the same mgf.

My mistake!

They only sell Twinmos now.... but at a very low price.

I tried Twinmos 128MB some time ago and it worked but was very slow

I'm testing a RiData 256MB and an Apacer 512MB tonight.

Hi!

I did buy the Pretec card with a guaranti that it would work, and it does!
Even though it does not give me the best of performances.
RAW write = 23 sec.

The Samsung 512 MB card was returned and will be traded into a Lexar 256 MB card. This is guarantied on the Minolta page and should give me no problems.

Thanks for your support!
