D300S Photos

Liked the last three, the first one made me feel a bit sea sick!

Nice lens, what is it?

Iain.

Opps, I think I was too excited, I may not have even seen the tree, LOL.

I've always been one to fill you have to have something in the foreground..

Well, I guess this just doesn't apply to all pics. LOL

Thanks for the feedback.

Believe it or not, If I recall correctly, most of these pics were taken with the old kit lens that came on my old D70.

I believe without looking at it, it was a Nikon 17-70mm 3.5 DX.

I like that last one...would've liked the first more if that tree wasn't right in the middle...get that chain saw :)

Beautifull!!! The 18-70 is a gem. Just MHO: #1, 2 and 4 seem to be tilted a little bit.

Watch out for the real or apparent horizons. When they are leaning to the right they make you feel a bit strange.
Easily fixed in Post Processing.

Excellent shots except number one. Something to lead your eye in yes but not a big tree blocking the view!!

I like the shots, except the tree; don't you hate when that happens. I have more than my share of stinkers (and if you ever get to Yosemite and the A. Adams gallery, you can see some of his also, in a small group showing). I would have gotten closer to the flowers in the last one, I mean right in there with them. I think it would have made your good shot into a excellent shot.

Agree with most of the comments here.

Get rid of the tree in the first one next time & take a bit more care with your PP in the others. You will then have some really nice shots.

One last thing, the other posters may know where this is or alternatively, don't care. I don't know where it is but DO care. Please, where is it?

also first two have center composition.

the next two are more or less ok, but the fencing is unappealing in the last one. you can probably take it off in photoshop.
Please give CC to photos,
Thanks

The first 3 were obviously from the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone. I would try more contrast to give them a little pop.

Omar047, I played a bit with your image to show you what I would do to add a little "pop". I also straightened the horizontal just a bit. I hope you like it.

Thanks to all for the great CC, it really helps. The person who named the first three is correct, the location of the last one is just outside of the West Yellowstone entrance about eight miles north.

I do very little PP and would like to start with a basic program. I only use Picasa 3 but feel to really take my photos to the next level I need to get busy and purchase, but not sure what to purchase.

I was considering trading my old kit lens, the Nikon 17-70mm 3.5 in for the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8. Any comments on that one? I notice the corners are dark when using my old 17-70mm 3.5 on my D300S.

Thanks again!

Thanks gilril,

It's very clear now what you have done. I do see more pop especially in the sky. I need to learn about PP and take my time to study improving my photos.

That's what it takes...........time. You can learn a lot by just experimenting w/ one image to see what all you can do to make changes. Doesn't matter which PP software you have you just have to get comfortable with understanding what it can do and what you like the final image to look like. Enjoy........
