i am having a blast with the classic nex-5. i have used two macro setups at the moment, and so far so good. Peaking, yellow color at low level, is my only focusing aid. my light source is the more powerful hvl-f20s attached to a DIY diffuser.

for the first three photos, i used the MC Rokkor PF 58mm f/1.4 attached to an extension tube.

for the last three photos, i used the Raynox DCR-250 attached to a Canon FD 135mm f/2.8

all the photos were post processed, cropped for compositional considerations, levels, some hue/saturation and sharpening.

hope you enjoy my photos. :)

Awesome photos. Thanks for posting them.

Excellent to see. Just been doing a few tests on macro here the last few days with the NEX, so this is great. Very, very nicely done shots and good ratios.

All the best and thanks.

Danny.

Worry about the image that comes out of the box, rather than the box itself.

Great macros! Not sure about the subject matter tho??? I thought it was only us 'street shooters' that got down and dirty (back alleys and bums etc - I mean down and outers here) but now I see you 'macro' types can also be a perverse group of individuals.

thanks. that's why im pretty excited with the nex-7, aps-c, 24mp. i can't wait to get my hands on it! :3

I've been experimenting with different types of 'DIY diffuses' and none seem to work very well (haven't tried the ping pong ball method yet though). They all are far less effective than the tin foil/mirror bounce flash, which doesn't do so well outdoors as you would imagine. What sort of DIY diffuser are you using?

Its an interesting sensor that one to be honest. I've never cropped macro until I got the 7. Main reason is with what I'm trying ......... Pentax thread mount 50mm F/1.8, set to F/16 with a ringflash, its not exactly getting a high ratio with the Raynox DCR-250 on the front. I really need a 200mm lens to give me the lens to subject distance and a higher ratio, I'll work on it. So cropping is absolutely amazing on the 7, I still don't believe it be honest with the details that sensor holds. I'm just not used to being able to crop like that.

If you do end up with a 7, it might well exceed the 5N in cropping, or it might not. Never tried a 5N so not sure.

I'll post up a few results anyway from it later on.

All the best and again, love these shots. The details in the Dragons are excellent ;)

You get more interesting subjects than appear in my garden, and obviously have more patience than me as well ;-)

Very, very nice shots. I wish I could easily find such subjects at the present time !
Hopefully I can start posting a couple of macro shots in the coming weeks...

Awesome pictures. I love the detail in them.

you definitely need a longer FL to get some "workable" ratios with the dcr-250, though the high mag will definitely show your "trembly" hands. with that said, i'm looking at you sel55210 and your OSS! :D

my first lame diffuser on the f20s. works great indoors, horrible outdoors.

results: workable, but i had very few keepers. :(

several modifications and adhesives later, a "more successful" diffuser made out of a carton box and bondpaper, attached to the extension tubes, via the trusy velcro!

result: first of the many keepers, i was a happy camper. :)

Thats exactly the lens I'm looking at ;). I thought about the 18-200, but the 55-210 makes more sense. On m4/3 I used the 45-200 and that worked well, so yes, the 55-210 will do nicely.

All the best and enjoying your work.

thanks. i was surprised by the quality of the raynox. IMO, it was sharper than the minolta ET setup. :)

you should shoot early in the morning. you'd be surprised at the number of critters that you'd find in the garden. the hunt is on! :)

Thanks so much for posting! Have been watching the Raynox, seems great for what it is and costs.

Love your second diffuser set up. Well done, excellent results.

Keep em coming please!
