I found myself with an hour and a half to kill this morning and I took the G1X with me for a walk about the local town. It's hard to know what to post because some people are keen to pursue landscapes and others are looking for architecture etc. I just wandered about to see what I could find that looked nice in the morning light. I think you'll find there's some nice DOF displayed in the Flower shots and also the Bicycle photographs.

Generally speaking, these are all shot in P-Mode with a couple of exceptions. Macro was required for anything within a few feet of the lens.

I was generally pleased with the results and these are straight from the camera. For the first time, I've saved them in a larger file-size than I usually do... to show the detail captured and to show how relatively low the effect of the in-camera processing is with JPEG... even when the sharpness and contrast is cranked up to +1. For once, I let the camera decide the ISO to use via auto ISO.

I will post further images in a few minutes - but as per the rules of the forum, I shall have to post them in the replies to this post...

One of the oldest churches in the country... cut from convict-hewn sandstone. The main street is named after this church. Some excellent detail captured in the sandstone in this shot. Great subtle lighting captured from the reflections off a nearby glass covered building.

The old deco style 1920's ROXY cinema is now a nightclub. Of a night time it is lit up with neon and underlit with gel colored lights. Might have to go back there in the evening. Take a look at this image by zooming in and blowing it up. Some great detail captured

I've tried to photograph this building fascade before and you can see the results here:

Flower growing over the fence of a famous historic building. I had to lean over the fence to shoot this ... which bewildered a few passers by. Some great Bokeh if you zoom in.

I don't know why but there were some ambulances parked around town today. Some great colors captured on the vehicle and in the window reflections.

Kind of a cool effect with the diffusion and shallow DOF in this shot. Very nice Bokeh, if you're looking for it.

This fishing bird was sunning himself when I got a little too close and he jumped into the water. He's actually a very large bird... about the size of a Pelican. Some more pics to come showing what he looked like out of the water. Some very attractive reflections. If I had taken this shot at sunset, the water would have reflected an amber or bright blue color. Bit muddy today with the floods here.

Some lovely DOF visible in this shot if you care to zoom in closer. The bike store owner was a little perplexed because he came out to see why I was photographing his store again.

My wife Rena at home using her iPad. The reason the light coming from the window sill appears to be both blue and orange is because the sun was low in the sky and the clouds were illuminated orange against a blue sky.

I walked past these vehicles and then backed up to take the shot from the middle of the road as the reflections looked appealing to me.

Why would anyone want a 24mm lens (with far more aspherical distortion) when the 28mm lens does such a good job with architecture?

More to come....

A very tall girl riding an oddly tall bicycle. She looks apprehensive because I was standing on the road in front of the post box... which she was about to stop by to post her mail.

Pedestrians crossing at the lights. Nice colors considering that I had inadvertently left the WB set to NEON.

A VERY detailed shot looking up the street at midday.

The bikes from the first set of pictures I posted in this thread. There's not much DOF in this shot, is there? Nice and sharp all the way.

Terrific detail captured looking down a side street.

Passing bike courier.

Great details captured around the front windscreen of this bus. A little detail blown out on the shirt of the girl waiting to cross the road but otherwise okay.

Random crosswalk.

I tracked this car briefly with the camera... which resulted in slightly blurred wheels and background, and yet a fairly stationary looking car.

The Coca Cola delivery truck on the morning run. Some nice reflections in this shot.

Someone's apartment from street level - in the morning light.

A VERY old house on a side street. Probably from the late 1800s. Shot at midday with the ND filter on.

Great building with a recent repaint that always reflects the warm colors of sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, this was taken at midday. Enjoy the shadows and the details.

Harry's Cafe De Wheels... essentially a pie stand with a cool neon sign that I was photographing with the G1X earlier in the week.

Always an interesting reflection from this building. Today I discovered another set of reflections recessed further back and around the side of the building. I thought it looked kind of neat.

Pappy's Seafood Restaurant. I used to eat here on special occasions or when I had a special date for dinner. I'm sure it's changed in the 25 years since I was last there but they do have a lovely gold decorative sign on the front now.

A wide view of the river.

The clocktower on the church steeple was displaying a reflection from a nearby building that managed to illuminate the lower face of the clock.

Local shopping plaza. Again, some very interesting details captured in this shot should you zoom in.

A rather shadowy back alley that leads from the street to the a car-park.

Marco,

Thanks for posting lots more images, the flowers and bokeh and soft palms behind them are fabulous - just goes to show how good a lens the G1X has and how good the IS is!! Also shows how good your eye and composition is Marco....some fab photos. I am seriously thinking of a G1X upgrade from my LX5, still waiting to see some f11 or f16 long range vistas with deep depth of field in bright light low ISO conditions though.

These are just great. I am very impressed by the camera and your ability.

Eternity was in that moment.

Another great set of shots! I particularly like the shallow DOF demonstrated on a couple of your flower shots. Very nice work!

1) More then beautifull pics.

2) Why did you took your photo nr. 1058-l (the white flower behind a hence) with EV -1,3 EV?

Eric
Hi Eric,

I the flower was light (white) in color so I had to knock down the sunlight in order to capture details. By reducing the EV to -1,3 I was able to get the shot I wanted without too much grief.

I suppose I could have used a faster shutter but I am still exploring the camera and wanted to see if I could reduce the intensity of the light on the flower whilst still maintaining some of the luminosity around the petals.

Very good serie of photos.

Like you, i found that the JPEG from the camera

have less need of post processing.

It is a good thing because while we post processed, we dont take photographies !

Surely, i like to post processed some photos but less than before ;)

Peter.

Beautiful set of shots Marco!! Seems like you're really enjoying your G1 X!
