I found myself with an hour and a half to kill this morning and I took the G1X with me for a walk about the local town. It's hard to know what to post because some people are keen to pursue landscapes and others are looking for architecture etc. I just wandered about to see what I could find that looked nice in the morning light. I think you'll find there's some nice DOF displayed in the Flower shots and also the Bicycle photographs.
Generally speaking, these are all shot in P-Mode with a couple of exceptions. Macro was required for anything within a few feet of the lens.
I was generally pleased with the results and these are straight from the camera. For the first time, I've saved them in a larger file-size than I usually do... to show the detail captured and to show how relatively low the effect of the in-camera processing is with JPEG... even when the sharpness and contrast is cranked up to +1. For once, I let the camera decide the ISO to use via auto ISO.
I will post further images in a few minutes - but as per the rules of the forum, I shall have to post them in the replies to this post...
One of the oldest churches in the country... cut from convict-hewn sandstone. The main street is named after this church. Some excellent detail captured in the sandstone in this shot. Great subtle lighting captured from the reflections off a nearby glass covered building.
The old deco style 1920's ROXY cinema is now a nightclub. Of a night time it is lit up with neon and underlit with gel colored lights. Might have to go back there in the evening. Take a look at this image by zooming in and blowing it up. Some great detail captured
I've tried to photograph this building fascade before and you can see the results here:

Flower growing over the fence of a famous historic building. I had to lean over the fence to shoot this ... which bewildered a few passers by. Some great Bokeh if you zoom in.
I don't know why but there were some ambulances parked around town today. Some great colors captured on the vehicle and in the window reflections.
Kind of a cool effect with the diffusion and shallow DOF in this shot. Very nice Bokeh, if you're looking for it.
This fishing bird was sunning himself when I got a little too close and he jumped into the water. He's actually a very large bird... about the size of a Pelican. Some more pics to come showing what he looked like out of the water. Some very attractive reflections. If I had taken this shot at sunset, the water would have reflected an amber or bright blue color. Bit muddy today with the floods here.
Some lovely DOF visible in this shot if you care to zoom in closer. The bike store owner was a little perplexed because he came out to see why I was photographing his store again.
My wife Rena at home using her iPad. The reason the light coming from the window sill appears to be both blue and orange is because the sun was low in the sky and the clouds were illuminated orange against a blue sky.
I walked past these vehicles and then backed up to take the shot from the middle of the road as the reflections looked appealing to me.
Why would anyone want a 24mm lens (with far more aspherical distortion) when the 28mm lens does such a good job with architecture?
More to come....
