Is there a way to force the focus to infinity? The manual page 22 implies you can chose "focus mode" auto or infinity but I cannot reach that menu choice, or maybe it is not there on my camera.

I do not have the M583.

But on the M580 which is an older model of the M583, one has to switch from Smart Mode to Program Mode before the AF icon appears on the top row of the LCD screen. Once the AF icon appears, one can switch the Auto-Focus mode.

Hope this may help.

I have two 583s; the one here at home doesn't show the Focus icon on p.22 of the handbook; instead of that icon it has Settings, none adjust the AF either other than Continuous or Single AF (and I couldn't adjust to infinity, etc.). I'll check the one at work to see if it's got it; could be the manual didn't capture a last minute before production/marketing change to the camera.

Could be an item for contacting Support at Kodak. As Dancheng says to change it the manual follows the procedure of the M580, but no icon.

In Program mode, did you see the "More tools" icon as shown in the User Guide?

According to the User Guide in Program mode, the LCD screen should display the following icons: Self timer; Exposure Compensation; ISO; White Balance; Focus zone; More Tools (an => icon).

The Focus Mode might show up when you place the red cursor on "More Tools" and select it by pressing OK.

Mine is missing the "More Tools" icon entirely..it goes to "Settings", just like for Smart Capture.

Time for work, I'll help look for an answer when home again.
