C&C welcome.

On this shot there was (is) some purple fringing which I tweaked a bit with a GIMP plugin. Completely overcast day.

Shifted some of the blues in the plate to a more green hue:

Window light right, reflector left:

These two were in a greenhouse environment with frosted glass overhead, so very diffuse lighting. Turned up the contrast to a Spinal Tap 11:

A little experiment with mixed lighting -- incandescent backlight with indirect window light left and right plus a reflector on the right. Nikkor-S 50mm 1.4 lens:

Obligatory bird:

It would probably benifit you to learn how to use layers and layer masks - if you don't know already :-) So, for example, you could add an adjustment layer to the original image which tweaks contrast or saturation or whatever. Apply a black mask to the adjustment layer. Then paint white with a brush onto the mask to allow only chosen adjusted areas to show through. If you only adjust selected areas the image will retain a more realistic look. And you can change the adjustments later if you decide to tweak them at a later date.

C&C welcome.
This made me smile - reminds me of my mum's lounge wall back in the sixties.
Bird shots aren't for me but I do like this.
Good attempt but maybe the overhead positioning doesn't work for me. Hmmm, now I'm tempted to look through some cookbooks to see if anyone does use this angle,
This is stylish but feels a little claustrophobic at top and bottom. Nice though, do like the mood it creates.
And this is a fascinating glimpse into the past - it helps to know the story.

I take it that means, "not very good." Well. That's fine. I'd like to learn about layers, but grad students don't really have time for such things. In fact, we don't really have time generally...

Yeah, that's what I was shooting for! [ouch]

Me thinks they typically use the low angle? I was trying to emphasize the concentric ring pattern.

With the 50mm lens I had on the camera I couldn't back up any further! So good catch!
Thanks for the comments.

I particularly like the bird in the grass with the jogger in the background. A most unusual shot.
Thanks, I was hoping someone would notice that one.
And he breakfast looks decidedly unhealthy!!! :)
1,000 times better for you than a bagel with margarine!

...followed by another slice of wholemeal toast and marmalade to finish off while sipping the contemplative cup of black tea!

Still, if hat's what you have to have for breakfast to shoot pix like the bird in the grass shot, then I suppose I'll have to make the gustatory sacrifice. :)

Cheers, geoff

I lived in Sedona for two years. Nicely done.

Ha! Sorry.

Reading my comments again they do seem overly critical. Unfair on what was a good set. Was aiming for some sensible C&C :-)
No, I said the C&C was welcome and I meant it. That one shot did strike me as a bit of a cliche. (Uh, "done as an homage in the style of...") I was just happy to get anything at all out of it, what with the lousy lighting, a relatively short & slow lens and a camera that supposedly "can't" take pictures of BIF.

There was lots of activity in Central Texas this past weekend. Many people celebrate Texas Independence Day. In San Antonio there was a reenactment of the fall of the Alamo. In Luckenbach there was great Texas Swing music and a large trail ride. I shot the Alamo reenactment with my Canon gear but I also carried an E-P2 for quick shots.

Lovely image just at last light. The skies are interesting as well. Nice capture in one of my favorite parts of the country.

This was the first real snow of the season. It's probably the last. Saturday we had tornados, Sunday it snowed.
