I can't help feeling cynical about this, but apparently the 5D Mark II has officially dropped in price in the United States. The official price drop is $300, bringing the body down to an MSRP of $2199. The kit price with the EF 24-105 f/4L IS has dropped to $2999.

Cynical because isn't this the price it WAS selling at up until a couple of weeks ago?

These prices should filter through to the main online dealers in a few hours. Here's hoping the UK go the same way. Of course since we pay in GBP more or less what US pay in $, I am fully expecting 300GBP to come off the price - yeah right!

No that's the price it was selling at with ridiculous sales around Christmas time, and only at certain larger vendors who could sell enough for units for it to be profitable. After the holiday season, prices went back up to the official $2,500 with a $100 instant savings, dropping the price to $2,400 (body only) which is where it's been for the past 2 months.

Hopefully it does come down for you. Though VAT is always going to keep the prices a little higher (our sales tax varies from state to state and is added at the time of sale).

Well it looks like we're getting the full $300 equivalent drop judging by the reports coming out of the Focus on Imaging show which is running this week.

As a matter of interest what sort of level is your sales tax set at? I know it varies state to state, but how does it compare to our 20% VAT?

Phil - what reports are you referring to? I'd be interested if anyone has seen how much the 5D II is selling for at the Focus on imaging show as I'm going there on Tuesday.

................as mentioned in another thread I received an email this morning from Cameratown.com/deals/ that BPP (BestPricePhoto.com) is selling the Canon 5D ll for 1899.00 with free shipping......a great deal! It does show on their website for this price.

You will have to check out the store yourself for its legitimacy.

Me too Fred,

Dylthedog said Jacobs were selling the 5d II body at £1429. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=40806357

I just started a new thread to try and gather info on show prices to save people a bit of footwork when they go: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=40806702

Last time I went to Focus a few years back Jacobs had the stand next to Canon and were doing decent deals. They have the same pitch this time right by the entrance. A few other dealers were there but none of the big ones like Jessops or Warehouse Express. Don't think they're there this year either.

I can see Jacobs cleaning up on mk II this week if that price is true!

Good luck.
