My youngest son stops moving for 1/2 second... the X10 records that rare moment...

A nice and perky photo.

You might consider applying the rule of thirds by cropping the left and front a bit -- this will further draw attention to his face.

Hi, thanks for your advice, here is a revised version.





It does look better.

Actually, now that you prompted me to look a bit beyond my snapshot, I am finding some reminiscence of an oldest portrait I made a while ago... maybe I am just repeating myself...

Superb shot! I like the first version, because I sort of "discover" the face not right away. Very pleasant to look at!

There's a lot of character in that shot. Your youngest son is going to grow up to be quite an individual.

I am happy to see that this picture conveys quite accurately some if the little fella's attitude.

We have it under control... most of the time...

But, it looks like a HR image and a bit flat.

Indeed and, in some ways, it is an HR capture (DR1600 jpeg from X10).

As far as I'm concerned the soft tonalities and contrast was OK given the subject, even though I often go for contrasty B&W when shooting other subjects.

I did try to play with stronger contrasts but the DR is so high (direct sun through the window) that I must either sacrifice highlights on one side or shadow details on the other. The highlights "sacrificed" version is the best of both bu finally, I think prefer this one.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and give some constructive criticisms. It's always appreciated and helps very much in improving my skills.
