At below ISO 1600 will there be much difference in detail or noise ?

The 5Dii is 1500 in the UK, the 5Diii will be 2500 ? (anyone know the proposed price here)

For those that don't need the new focus system, the value/cost ratio makes the 5Dii great at the moment I think

I believe the UK list price will be £2,999..... It'll take some time, I expect, for it to drop significantly.

......I had the same thought!

If you look at the recent L-series lens upgrades there seems to have been a 'step' change in the price, I suspect that this maybe about to apply to the camera line too.

That leaves the 5d2 looking rather good value right now.......IF you don't mind not having a state of the art AF & a headphone socket.......

the markIII has also a much better image quality especially in low light..its not only about a better AF system and a headphone socket.

this is interesting

most of my pictures are 100-400 ISO.

If I go above that its normally 3200 and I don't need pixel level quality just create colour rednering and dynamic range

Despite all the stuff about banding, I think the 5Dii is superb at pixel level at base ISO and higher.

I am sure the 5Diii will be better but am waiting to examine RAW files to see what the reality will be!

Likely yes for a new one... but not likely on the used market.

I actually have my 5D (marki) on eBay right now, after letting it sit in it's box since Sept '09, when I bought my mark ii. I was spurred to get off my butt, and list it, because I thought that this announcement would cause a glut of markii's on eBay and the price of the marki would plummet....BUT... I don't see that happening with this camera. I think the large majority (non-pro) of 5dii owners will not jump at this cam.... If anything, I think this cam will cannibalize 1Dx preorders, and kill the current crazy resale value of the 1Dsiii.

The UK launch price is £2999 for the MKIII which is nothing short of absolutely outrageous. I can show you a UK camera shop that is selling the MKII for £1380 today...

The best time was around the holidays. Now, Canon have officially raised the price of their FF cameras. There is no reason for them to lower the 5DII price.

Yeah the price of MK3 is ridiculous. I'm willing to bet the best option is to wait for the mk3 to come down in price -- don't buy a MK2 if you are wanting to save money.

This is my reason. Those that have a MK2 will not want to upgrade (MK3 not a big enough upgrade value for most). They will keep their MK2. This will keep the prices of used MK2 relatively high. Also, the majority of the current MK2 owners will not move to NIKON because of their investment in Canon glass even if its true that the NIKON is vastly superior. These shooters will wait perhaps another year for canon's response.

The price of MK3 will drop very quickly. Its too expensive as compared to the competition -- at least it is based on the stated specs. Depending on how many units canon ordered made of the MK3 model, there maybe a glut of MK3's on the markets within the next few months. This of course depends on how good their "just in time manufacturing" is assuming they outsource their manufacturing. I suspect a target price of $2.5k for the MK3.

On the other hand, if canon does their own manufacturing in house than perhaps we will see canon do a "proper" response to NIKON sooner -- which is a good thing because people will finally buy the new bodies and there will be more used MK2 (and even MK3) and thus lowering the prices for those used bodies.

Three of us picked up 5DmkIIs just before Christmas for $2200 -- we expected the Mk III -- but I think I can speak for my two friends when I said then, "what the MkIII will add, we don't need and it will be far more expensive!" Looks like I nailed it!

Unless you're flying off the Katmandu with National Geographic credentials pinned to your vest, the MkII will keep you happy for many years...

I later purchased a Velo grip and additional used Canon speedlights -- for a tiny fraction of what they're asking for their new uberflash and accessories... looks like the used market will jump to meet the new pricing realities!

Only wish I knew how much the price increase is due to their economics or our inflationary government spending!

Yep, you bought the MK2 at a good time. Now, is not a good time IMHO... A lot of MK2 users will want to keep their cameras and not upgrade. The next best time to buy a full frame would be when Canon is desperate to unload the Mk3... That will be a good time to buy NOT the MK2, but the MK3 :-)
