I just received my Metabones Canon EOS to NEX adpater. I was wondering if anybody else has had issues with this new adpater. Mine will not fit 4 of my Canon L lenses, but with some degree of persuation, it will go on my 70-200 f 2.8....even then the adapter wiggles slightly(rotationally) and I loose electronics. It is a nice looking adapter and a great idea. I am currently dealing with Metabones to replace it , The adapter does fit the NEX nicely. And by the way for those looking at a NEX7...this is pretty impressive camera, but requires the best glass to optimize what the sensor is capable of. I am using 3rd party lenses with adpater...(Zeiss glass)....the camera is all manual, but I like that.

mine fits (with electronics working) on all my EF & Ef-S lenses (including
some from Sigma and Tokina), however, there were some problems too
(description is buried a bit deep into another thread):

That's not too encouraging (losing the electronics). Does that happening naturally while using the camera, or do you have to play with the lens after mounting it to do that?

I have some Metabones Contax G adapters, and one of them is very difficult to click in place on the E mount, sometimes. It's a very tight fit.

I'm very interested in the outcome, though I own no Canon lenses right now. I really want to get a 100mm Makro Planar, and I've been thinking of getting this adapter specifically for that one lens.

Check out the Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar in C/Y mount. It is one of the best lenses, if not the best, that I have and I have probably 12-14 Zeiss lenses and other Leica lenses. It works great with the NEX-7 and is a lens that can take full advantage of the 24MPix. My first Fotodiox C/Y adapter was a bomb, but the replacement has been stellar... and the Makro/Fotodiox provide great edge to edge sharpness and a really tight fit.. My first version of the adapter had lens play.

thanks for the link and input....I sent them a video of the issues and they immedialty said "return it and we will cover shipping". This was the proper response. I do think the issue is with the pins.

thanks for the tip...I will check it out. I am anxiously awaiting the new Metabones because I have 17 and 24mm TSE lenses that also "want to go on the NEX". I tried a number of Olympus OM and Nikkor lenses (older AI lenses) and while they were ok they could not fully realize what this sensor can do. As a professional, I generally shoot 5DMKII and medium format digital....so I have a good background in evaluating sensors. NOw I want to see Sony do a NEX 10 full frame camera at about 45-50 meg pix!!

I'm intrigued by the C/Y but isn't that an f/2.8? I'd also like it to double as a portrait lens, and don't know how the bokeh compares to the f/2 lens.

I've just isolated the cause which made the Vario-Sonnar to misbehave
from loosing contacts (on their site Conurus warns that some converted
to EF-mount Contax-N lenses might be problematic; although they gave
the VS 24-85 clean bill of health):
  • there is a spring operated locking pin on every female EF-mount, which on most (I've about 12 of them accessible here) has approx. 2-2.2mm diameter;
  • a corresponding locking hole on male EF-mounts must be even slightly wider to fit;
  • on the Conurus adapter the locking pin is only 1.85mm, which of course causes some leeway - just tad too much for the Vario-Sonnar, so it occasionally disconnected on some crucial contact pin;
  • a bit of epoxy hard paste, applied to the locking EF hole on VS, and after curing time for epoxy to set, voila... the problem solved :);
perhaps the same might have been the cause of your 70-200L, but
anyway few teething pains are inevitable for such a project - and the
demand must be pretty high as this adapter never ceased to be out of
stock ever since the very first day on sale :D,

indeed, good communications with them here as well, the only hitch
was a waiting time for my adapter to make its trips: twice from HK to
EU, and twice back :(,

I believe you are absolutely correct. I noted that the lock pin on the Metabones adapter was smaller than the hole in the lens mont, which created poor rotational fit. I will have to find some kind of epoxy paste, lubricate the pin, then attach the lens with the pin pulled back. Once the lens is on, and rotated to maximum, I can release the locking pin and let the epoxy set up. As long as the pin does not get glued...this should take out the play. Good observation. Cherio.

...that your lubricant and the setting agent of your epoxy (usually a
tertiary amine, easily recognizable by its smell) don't mix together,
otherwise there is a danger to glue them all for good.

The epoxy glue I used has working time of 5 mins, and curing time of
only 20 mins, so at about 10 mins. it had property of half-soft putty,
and no longer sticky :),

good luck,

Iv'e been using the Metabones with all my Canon L glass, they are all fabulous on the NEX 7. I also have been using my Pentax 645 35mm FA and 120 macro, both of which are outstanding.

That way i could use all the Pentax glass I have ;- )
I use a $25 adapter from an Ebay seller that allows me to use my DA lenses (100mm f2.8 WR and the plastic-fantastic 35mm f2.4). It doesn't have 'click-stops', just a variable aperture ring I suppose you could call it. Works great and it was cheap...

another discovery - and since no one mentioned it yet, here it goes:
  • IS on all EF lenses tested so far can be activated either by the usual (for a canonite) way of 1/2-press when aperture is set to wide-open;
  • or... it is enough to change aperture to the next "click" (be it 1/3, 1/2 or full step depends on each particular lens) and IS will be engaged all the time (as long as the IS on/off switch on the lens is ON);
  • the latter way allows IS to be operated independently of MF-assist cancel - on Nex'es it is done automatically by 1/2-press (although I'd love to do it on demand, by some other button);
  • to some extent the above behavior is controlled by the state of the "Visualize Style" option;
