Is it possible that in the next few months Fuji will replace current S602 with a new model that employs the recently deployed XD card? Given its use in the 3800 and the pro model of the 602 (more than I want to spend) does it seem likely that Fuji will adapt the current 602 to use this faster, more advanced card?

I'm ready to buy a 602 now, but I don't need it immediately. I don't mind waiting a couple months. It seems like Fuji changes models every 6 to 9 months.

What do you guys think?

OK here's my view

Fuji launched the S602 in about May this year and the old model 6900 was almost unobtainable by December last year. As the S602 is still selling well and is still in the shops, I would hazard a guess that it will be at least mid 2003 or nearer the Autumn before the next model is released, ie in the build up to next Chritmas. And thats olny if they get a higher pixel CCD, as the 602 is mearly a 6900 Mark II, so I don't think Fuji will be able to pull that sunt again, that is a Mark III but still with the 3mp CCD

As far as media is concerned, now is a good time to but Smart Media, it is cheap and still in plentiful supply, so unless you intend keeping the S602 for say over 5 years, then just go for it, get a handfull of 64mb SM cards, they are cheaper per meg that 128 meg cards, and enjoy this truely great camera. At the end of the day, you can go the Microdrive route, or at a push use CF which I'm sure will be around for a long time to come.

In my opinion, SM is ample fast enough, I never have to wait for the card to be written to using SM.

Hope this helps

Hi Dan

There is an xd adapter now so that the 602 can use it. Its an adapter that fits the cf slot on the 602 and the xd card slots right in.
Hope it helps.

Happy New Year and dont put off buying the 602 you will miss out on lots of fun usage.

See the following thread for info on using XD cards with the 602.

Dan, some day a meteor will strike the earth and destroy it. Some day Fuji will replace the S602 with an upgrade, what that upgrade will be is anyone’s guess.

Dan,

I recently purchased my S602Z after researching the same issue. I couldn't find any news releases regarding the replacement of this camera. Since such news releases seem to predate the actual availability of any new camera by several months, I decided it wasn't worth waiting. It would also seem that by waiting later in the production of a camera you also give the manufacturer a chance to work out problems with production and firmware (Pixel wise my camera is excellent). Whenever Fuji decides to release a replacement for the S602Z I'll decide if it's worth replacing. My old camera will still have some value and I won't have missed months of fun using it (I could get hit by a car tomorrow you know).
Just my opinion.

Regards,
Craig
