fastest recycling flash

bg question

i have all the four flash pttl from metz and pentax, the 58 48 540 460...well it depends from the battery used first. but th emetz seems faster than pentax.

i have also the quantum compact turbo, with this you can recharge using envelop in less than 2 sec.

but the fastest flash is the young 580 with envelop. it's incredible it recharge near fast as quantum turbo compact so 2 sec or less, and at half power is practically super fast. Yes it's not pttl.
i am looking for a PTTL flash which will recycle in 2-4 seconds. what are my options?

thanks.

I know it's been a while since I check on this post. I've been busy working 7 days week with travelling.

where to find the young 580?
does it have auto flash mode?
how does the flash do +1/2 ev or -1/2 ev compensation.

The flash will be on a flash bracket 100% of the time.

Thanks.

I took a 6v emergency light batery and hooked it up to a AF200FG.
From a full discharge, it took 2 sec to recharge.

When shooting at f4 iso 100 , it recharged so fast that the ready light stayed on. (K200D)

It could keep up only when shooting RAW, but not shooting JPEG (file transfer time).
I don't know how many flashes it will take to melt the electronics in the unit.

You can find them on ebay, I've 4 of them with 2 power packs. To get the fast recycle time you need to use Eneloops, not the XX ones, the standard 2000-1800mh.

Without power pack they recycle in 2.5s, with power pack in 1.5s. They are fully manual flashes, but if you decide to learn a bit, they become easy to guestimate the exposure. I've sold my pentax flash since YN560 are very easy to use in manual mode and I can make the exposure look exactly the way I want. All it takes is a bit of reading, practice and off you go. After all, knowledge is power.

You don't do +/-0.5ev, you press a button to go from full power to 1/2, then 1/4 and all the way down. Then you have 2 more buttons to do micro adjustments at each power setting, I don't use this buttons much. All you have left is adjusting the aperture correctly and you are ready to shoot. I put my camera in full manual mode. Once you get a hang of it, it's fast and becomes 2nd nature.

I agree with TheChefs above, I have just purchased a Younuo Speedlite YN560-II which is the latest model, it has a LCD screen to make all the adjustments easy, it even has a slave mode, and the quality of workmanship....well, just unbelievable, its in the same league as my mates Nikon 600, even he was surprised, and wait for it, just £54 delivered (around $85). Recovery time is excellent however, fortunately, or unfortunately, which ever way you look at it, it's not P-TTL, but so easy to use on manual. Hope this helps.
