I wanted to ask what things I should disable and enable, settings etc. and which mode is best to shoot indoors with some lamps and overhead lights in the home? Will be taking photos of some friends. So this camera doesn't come with a printed manual??

You have to print the PDF file from the CD, but the manual is pretty useless.

There is an automatic low-light mode (the candle) on the dial, which is good for quick party shots. It disables the flash. If you need the flash, then use either one of the SCN modes or the P or A mode. I tend to use a slow sync flash setting, because it provides a more natural lighting (at the expense of sometimes blurry faces if people move around).

thanks. No matter what mode I use, the photos seem to come out blurry.. What WB and ISO, shutter speed should I use? is Aperture priority best to use? Any settings I should shut off or change in the camera for best quality? RAW + JPG?

My opinion is that , mode M
WB to the icon which marks lamp or the one touch WB (5300 or something)
shutter speed to 1/25

and iso value to place where the histograph looks like it's going to get enough lightning for PP. BUT under 800!

And for to be save, that's just MY opinion.

I have tried several settings, shot in P, A, Auto modes and I'm getting some strange banding on every photo and quality is worse than my wife's $100 point and shoot. check these images I attached. Is my camera a dud? It's a refurbished from Olympus I bought on Amazon.

I just bought XZ-1 a few days ago. Never experienced anything like this. You should return/exchange another one.

Hi there --- I just bought one as well (new) and the same thing happened to me, however, in my case, it took a few shots before I realized I was changing the settings with the control ring while holding the camera in my left hand. I retook the same photos, and they were crystal sharp. Just a thought.
