I give up!

Hi backdoctor I think I got mat worked up into frothing at the mouth. He tried to tell me how I shot that football pic and he was mostly wrong.
Jarrell

YOu are right. I have been posting responses to Matt Cromer on the
open forum. It's just his proliferation of misinformation is soooo
annoying. If he were speaking from personal experience, it wouldnt
be so much a bother. I guess I should let it roll off my shoulders.

NAH!

you are truly a rare bird! Owner of both a 5700 AND a 717! You must be a very strong individual indeed. How do you ever decide which ONE of them you're going to use? You're right though. I used to go over to the other forums and read for a while. I'd feel better then when I came back home. Maybe we should all do that every now and then... :)

Jarrell: I'm surprised and sorry that the rancor about the 5700 has gotten to you. If you recall, I tried the 5700 last summer and I didn't like it. When I let the NTF know that I'd sent it back, I was beaten and pounded like I've never seen before. I just laid back for a while and then got a 4300 which I truly love. Simple as that, the 5700 wasn't for me but the 4300 is. There are some on the NTF that shoot their mouths off endlessly and never really show anything positive. You, in your quiet manner, display some works of art that you've done with the 5700. That speaks much louder than the naysayers. Best regards, Gary

Sony F707, Sony S75, Nikon CP 4300, Nikon CP 885 and everyone of them a damn good camera

it's good to see you back again. I know, I've gotten punched a couple of times myself, so no one is immune... :-)

I think it may be a passing thing, this disillustionment (is that a word?), and I'll pick up and jump right back in the fray. I think what happened is I got a bad headache from gritting my teeth so much and it put me in an ill mood this morning. I'm all better now!

Glad to hear you've got a camera that works for you. That is such an important point and one we all overlook to often.

You're right, it is dfficult to decide which camera to use,I love them both no matter what the sceptics say about them. I also have the same problems with cars as you can see in this picture. My wife doesn't mind two cameras but she would like me to sell one of the cars.

I havent posted anything in the forum for a month and for the same reason I just got tired of all the negative posts and the lack of educational posts. I wouldn't answer any other post but you are one of the positives in this forum well you and the bulldog.

But I believe this still goes back to the industry is in such a hurry to get new products to this exploding market that long term testing has a thing of the past and every model is going to have problems that a years hard testing would uncover but with the limited testing and the fact that we the consumers will buy anything they throw at us anytime they throw it at us does not allow for good solid product testing.

I have seen the 5700 focus in light situations that I would have bet it wouldn't and have also seen it not focus when I thougth it should but I sure would not throw it in the fire for a for the few times it had a problem.

What I suggest we do is start a post in which we get examples of focusing problems and group them by type and see if we can determine what specific circumstances cause the most problems and look for a solution.
Much more positive solution.

Going to be in gulf shores alabama for the Southern Conclave of Fly Fishers May 16 thru the 18th. Doing a seminar of Digital Cameras and the Fly Fisher.
Sure would like to meet you. Great time to get some good pics.

This is going to sound like a very odd question, but do you ever
get tired of defending the 5700? I know I do. It's a battle that
just goes on and on and on and on. There's no end to it, that I
can see. So, the answer for me personally is to let you guys do it
from now on and I'll bow out of those particular conversations (I
hope I can stay out :-). I'm not mad or upset about it, just worn
down I guess.
Still, I was wondering if anyone else has gotten tired of it.

This is what

Jarrell Conley wrote to me: it's tough, sometimes... but just learn to take it with a grain of salt. As someone else said in this thread, the older I get the harder it becomes for me to get mad and fired up about things like the minor differences in cameras. The 5700 is not perfect, but I knew it was the one for me the first time I picked one up. I already new, from this forum about it's shortcomings and I knew it wouldn't make or break my decision, because it was MY decision on what I thought would be best for me, not for someone else.

Do like I do. When it gets a little nasty around here, go shoot some pictures, spend some quality time in PS or whatever program you use and let it blow over

Hang in there Jarrell the die hards will outlive the techies that just want the latest and greatest PS.

Jarrell, I've had my 7500 for just a month, and have been surprised how much bashing there's been in that month. I researched before I bought it, and - at this point - wouldn't trade for any other camera.

During my visits to this forum, I've found you to be the rock-solid voice in the wilderness. Please continue to contribute and don't worry about the complainers.

With the large number of participants in this forum one should expect a few grouches, sourpusses, spoilsports and general malcontents to come out of the woodworks.

I have been following all of the threads without taking time to
comment, I get so tired of the anti information that goes on around
here. This forum could be so much more productive if the group kept
focused (no pun intened). There is a wealth of information to be
shared and learned here and I am afraid that the true purpose of
these forums has been reduced.

His other BS
claims were that if I would just RTFM, I would then automatically
know everything there is to know about F stops, Aperture settings,
Exposure Composation, and all the things a "true" photographer must
know.
Don't you find all that stuff worth learning for your own benefit?
I don't have the luxury
of a film background, and therefore must use Program on many
occasions, to be pretty sure I'll at least get something acceptable
to keep.
Can't really see how a film background relates to your unwillingness to use the advanced features of your camera that make it different from a point-and-shoot.
Sometimes time itself doesn't allow for setting up desired
setting parameters.
Agree on that.

O.K.

I don't care if you shoot a Leica, Canon, Nikon...et al...

SHUT UP & SHOOT

The more time you spend debating the differences between Snap-On and Craftsman, the less time you spend using your tool.

In fact it's all Phil's fault. He created these forums that we are now addicted to and are keeping us from shooting ;-)

I agree with you: the 5700 is a great camera. That stated, I must say that conservatism is not bright at all, it's gloomy and sad. Obviously I am what you call a "liberal" or, in European terms, a leftist.
Regards!
Jarrell,

Don't give up. It's like the battle of trying to convince a
liberal or socialist to open their eyes. It's a struggle, because
the bright light of conservatism and truth sometimes is difficult
to deal with. So hang in there. The 5700 is a super camera and we
shouldn't give up "the good fight".

P.S. did the above yank any chains? :)
