The pixel peepers are missing a bargain

Here, here.

Lovely shots. This sensor is great at low ISOs. Remember it was used in the K5 which was universally deemed an excellent DSLR and didn't get nearly as much flak for its sensor. There's he age factor which may explain it but I'm sure there's some brand bias as well.

Valid point but the initial point was highlighting the current value of the 1st gen NX cameras.
While those are wonderful pictures, you should do yourself a favor and stop playing the "Samsung is an underdog that is being willfully ignored" card.

The conditions above are where there is usually little difference in cameras of similar classes. Head into lower light conditions and then we'll see how well the NX11/100 stacks up against the NEX series.

Not to mention operation, focus peaking, and a host of other operational improvements.

It's not all about the sensor alone, but the hardware that went with it. Obviously, samsung didn't put nearly as much into the hardware as pentax did, the latter creating one of the highest-performing slrs on the market.

And the current value is they take pictures, plain and simple.

Yes, no disagreement there. Only it is valued more than twice as much currently. I'd love to have one with some nice Limited Pentax Primes but can't justify the cost. Oh, hang on- so they both take pictures yet I find myself placing different values on them based on features and cost?? How confusing!

I'd love to know what your photographic background is snake. What do you take pictures of and how?

I take pics of things.

Sorry, nope. Pentax K20D and K-7 used Samsung sensors, pretty much the same as NX10/11. Pentax K-5 has the class-leading Sony sensor.

EDIT: That Sony sensor is also used in NEX-5N, A580, Nikon D7000

The nx series have their drawbacks but then so do lots of other cameras. The only interesting thing about the nx series is that they are the cheapest aps-c sensor based interchangeable lens compacts at the moment. I wont include the sigma dp as they have a fixed lens though they too are available on the cheap [2nd hand]. So if the nx series cost less then obviously samsung would have cut down on quality so that the product is affordable and this is why at times you feel the camera isnt complete and is lacking in many things available in more expensive compact systems. The first generation of the nx series [nx 10, nx100] were well intended models but lacking in many fronts due to which it didnt do that well in either amateur or enthusiast market when compared with the panasonic, olympus, sony systems

I'm pretty sure the NX10, 11 and 100 use the K20d sensor. The resolution is very impressive, the high ISO is less. 1600 ISO though and lower its still quite nice. Its nothing that Noiseninja or Noiseware or the like can't fix though. Yeah its not the newest sensor on the block but you can still make great images with it.

I guess all are panostitches. Using graded ND filters?

Btw. what lens was used (most curious about that :D).

I wondered about Samsung for quite a bit time, mostly cause that 14 mpix sensor can do things that others dont. Only thing that stopped me so far is ability to manual focus.

And yes I think Samsung is underdog, their marketing is tragedy. :( You do pretty good job to make it bit better. :)

I've been playing with the demo version of Lightroom recently and have found that it does a superb job of noise reduction on NX10 files. Even ISO 3200, which I've almost completely avoided, can be made to look quite nice. You lose detail of course, but not as much as I thought. It's almost like installing an upgraded sensor!

I don't own any filters, I just take three exposures and work with those. Sometimes I only need one of them and sometimes all three. I use HDR but often prefer to just fade from one exposure to another. Also those three images are just crops, although I have others which are stitched. Thanks Ian

Edit 30mm F2 prime.

Awesome processing then, I wasnt able to recognize its exposure blend (ok that third does look very slightly HDRish, but only tiny bit).

If those are crops then.. wow, thats a lot of resolution.

Great photos, really.

I'm no pixel peeper but I wouldn't buy the NX 10/11.

It's not compact enough and resembles a dslr (which is what makes it not compact..)
So, I'm not really missing out on anything.

But the NX20 or whatever the EVF model is called needs to be released yesterday.

Too late. The NX 300/30 is already set for release.

I am using Noiseware Community Edition but the CE doesn't give you a lot of controls. Still, it does do an amazing job on raw converted jpegs on both my NX100 and my lx3. I just downloaded the lightroom beta, I will have to see if I can improve some of my own ISO 3200 shots. While Samsung OCC jpeg engine definitely needs some work, if you go with a RAW convert then noise filter workflow you can definitely pull more detail in high iso situations. I am finding out what my camera can do and learning about digital photography rather than lingering on what my camera can't do.

Sorry, my bad. I meant the K7.
