Does anyone know if this combo rattlesnakes?

Maybe ask again in April.

Plenty of journalists have their hands on this camera now, albeit without final firmware perhaps.

What's the harm in requesting someone to throw on the 25mm and check it out.

It's a great question and one I've been curious about too.

If it does, then frankly its a huge shame. I'd probably still buy the camera, but I'll curse the darn clicking every time I hear it.

Olympus make us a sub 2.0f 17 to 25 lens for 600 bucks that exceeds the panny and is weather sealed

Cheers!

That lens makes a ton of noise on my E-P3, which is the only reason I didn't buy it... If it doesn't on the E-M5 I surely will.

Oh yes it makes a bit of funny aperture music. I dont care .....

Which lens is this? I can't find it.

Thanks.
I think it was supposed to be a command.

Like... "Olympus, make us a sub 2.0f 17 to 25 lens for 600 bucks that exceeds the panny and is weather sealed. Thanks!"

In other words, it doesn't exist. But willyspuddle wants them (demands!) them to make it.

Thanks for clarifying - I would LOVE to see a fast 17-25mm lens!!! What an awesome focal length for street shooting!!! Surely this would be smaller than the fabled 12-35, No?

Hi Don,

I just don't understand why anyone cares much about this. My EPL3 with PL 25 rattlesnakes. I figure, "So what?" The rattlesnaking gives the combo some character. The resulting images are superb. The Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 does the same thing, although to a lesser degree. The resulting images are superb.

For me, it's all about the image. A bit of aperture chatter is interestingly idiosyncratic and a non-issue.

Rattlesnaking is 'chatter' from the aperture blades opening and closing as the camera tries to keep the LCD view from getting either too bright or too dark due to changes in light levels. Fast Panasonic lenses are known to do it most noticeably on Olympus bodies - my 20 1.7 does it on my E-PM1, for instance.

I don't believe it's an issue during video shooting, as the aperture will be locked to whatever you set it at while you are actually shooting. It only occurs when you're not actually shooting.

I've been wanting to get that 25mm. I wonder if I should sell my 20 1.7 and just get that, or if I would miss the 20.

+1

I'll try it with my 25 at focus next week
Neil,

What was your experience with this lens at Focus? Is the noise as pronounced as it is on the E-P3?

While I agree that it's all about the image, on occasion noise like this from a camera/lens can prevent the image from being captured. Street shooting, a sleeping baby, puppies, etc. All can be disturbed by the slightest of noise and I just don't want to lose the moment. Reduced shutter noise one of the reasons I prefer mirrorless cameras...

They must vary. The noise from mine is totally unobjectionable. It wouldn't wake up a baby if you put it in the cot.
