Damian McGillicuddy Journal on EM-5 (1 amazing sample)

Well, his awards and the opinions of his peers seem to disagree with you. BTW, that shot was taken by a PEN.
The opinion of his peers, I am sure, is mixed, just like any opinions on any matter. As for awards... they are mostly politics, they carry very little weight for anyone's legacy. What photography awards had Ansel or HCB won?

everyone is entitled to their own tastes/likes/biases but by no means need they be, or, more importantly, ought they be, respected. Respect the right, not necessarily the choice. That's how it properly works.

The samples shared are outstanding, narrative aside. Even as an Olympus fan I understand and accept the sensor limitations. The very same samples taken with a great Canon/Nikon/Pentax or Sony body with top end lens could do equal, or surpass, what the EM-5 produced.

When there are not samples taken by the aforementioned DSLRs then we cannot be sure just how good, or how they compare against the rest of the best. Given this circumstance, I prefer to peruse side by side image samples and I will wait on them to see how things stack up.
Also, what you perceive as distasteful can be perceived as great erotic to another. But, to each their own. Everyone has his/her own tastes/likes/biases, and that's something we should all respect.

I attended one of his workshops in Manchester last year, I love his work, he is also one of the most down to earth guys you can meet, best workshop I have attended, and I have been to a few. Of course if you don't like his work fair enough, but you don't win the amount of awards he has without some skill and talent.

My shot from his workshop

Judging from the out-of-focus areas in the second image, blurring was done in post-processing. The writer may like the camera, but those tiny images hardly convey anything about the E-M5 or lens performance.

That is obvious to most who are on this forum. Yes, but it's not those images that makes his journal exciting for prospective buyers, but his words.

But what should be taken by this thread is he loves this camera. If someone like him that would have access to the best likes it, then maybe someone not as talented as me or you should too.

Of course, one can only believe in things 100% if he tries it for himself/herself. We'll see if all this hype is just hyperbole, or warranted come April. But for now, I can't believe one would be more skeptical than hopeful when there are so many positive signs.

It's just that when someone refers to themselves with multiple nicknames, in the third person, and uses the language of excited thirteen year old schoolgirls...

... it's difficult to take them seriously.
The world is full of people who take themselves too seriously. A flamboyant character who still knows his trade is a welcome distraction.

Everything that could be analyzed about E-M5 has already been analyzed. It's nice to hear someone's emotional response to the camera.

Bent out of shape? Who's bent out of shape? Certainly not me. But your douche type "really" response just proves what most forum trolling "photographers" are.
Whoa. Now you're calling me names?

Nice.

I think you're bent out of shape.

Really.

Like you did when you called me a douche?

Mr. McGillicuddy has updated his blog/ journal and from the looks of things, it seems he does indeed may have read the posts in this thread.

In his latest entry, he has answered a question I had at the time, and something I Googled- whether he shot for Olympus, which "could" explain some of his "supposed" hyperbole for the em-5.

I urge you to read his latest entry entirely, as there are tons of insight from his few words, and even hints light to an upcoming E-7.

This snippet here pretty much sums up why I'm going to get into m4/3- something I realised during vacation trips, during parties, during even mundane moments around the house - that it was a chore to pick up my DSLR.

The point being, is that logistically its an easy "do", I felt LIBERATED in Venice and unless I'm loosing my sight, the quality just hasn't been compromised. It fits in with my strobist leanings and marries beautifully to the portability and punch of my Quantum Qflash. I'm genuinely finding it hard to find reasons, other than perception, not to use this much, much more and as somebody who has never cared how people perceive me as long as my imagery is still near the top it ain't going to worry me... even though I'm told I blog like an excitable 13 year old girl ;0)

Reading his entire post again, and remembering some comments made on this thread, its clear he has read this entire thread. There's a more serious tone to this entry- and definitely more insight.

Good. It's great when people listen to criticism. Btw, my negative comments about his images are more the reaction to the gushing praise. IMHO his images at the very least are of solid professional quality, and some of them are great. Interestingly, some of his best images (IMO of course) are not on his website, e.g. this one

Still, he might be a top bloke, but his blogging style is utterly ridiculous.

Now that's a blog post that I can read from start to finish, and take seriously.
