Just thought it'd be interesting to post both the before and after images.

For the B&W version, played around with levels to get a black background, added a slight glowy effect to make it seem softer (increased contrast + overlay blending mode + slight gaussian blur).

It's flower.
I think you have a very good point and one that I have been struggling with the past few months. My initial impression of such efforts was negative. I think human perception (at least mine) wants color. So, it takes some (un)learning to appreciate the absence of color, at least it has for me. Now, there are times when the black and white version of a flower image can wow me. I don't want to compare it to eating spinach . . . maybe caviar.
