**** Mini Challenge 317 Action Shots*********

That white tiger is beautiful, Wilba. And you gotta "love" the heart-shaped splash!

Think he could ever do that again? Me either. That's a one time shot you captured there :)

thank you for the kind words AvyMan!

Also apologies for inserting my entries into the wrong place in the heirarchy and not changing the subject. I tried to ammend it after but couldnt figure out how to.

Wow these are very cool ! Makes me feel really small.
First one's my favorite .
Thanks for sharing!

Herons eat many unusual things:

Here's a few shots in the original sequence:

In this case the fish was too big to swollow alive, so the Heron took it on the beach and speared the fish with its beak until it stopped wiggleing:

Gulp!

Here's my contribution, after seeing a white tiger in action I'm afraid these may not look like much-anyways:

Love all the water flying. Those birds can really fling it around! (Mating season?) Nice lighting as always, too.

I like the off-contest shot best because of the capture. It looks like a much rarer sight just to see, let alone get a fine picture of this action.
Thanks Nick, that's certainly one that I don't expect to shoot again like that :) Especially considering I was aiming to shoot them mid dive, ending up shooting it after the dive. They are very quick!

Spectactular shots Nick! The skier was hard to spot but eventually I found him :) Must be an impressive sight to see those blasts in the snow and mountains from a chopper!
Wind action

Flying-Skier-With-Shadow action - Tightly cropped (4 miles away), this photo is one near the start of a 16-shot sequence. In the next split second, a bad landing triggered a relatively small avalanche that took him down the rest of the way.

A wider view of the same shot (off contest). The skier is just left of center.

Explosive action - Explosives with a long fuse are dropped from a helicopter for avalanche mitigation. This is for the plow drivers' safety before they start to open up Independence Pass (Colorado) in the spring, even though much of the snow has already melted.

A birdseye view of the avalanche threat to the highway below (off contest).

Hope you all had a great weekend. And Monday is a holiday for some in the USA :)

Thanks. I don't remember the details... I was too busy taking photos. :-D

Yes, Bengal tigers according to the Zoo website - http://www.zoo.com.sg/l2_t1.aspx?l1=5&l2=46&langid=1

I could post a few more of my tiger shots if you guys would like to see them...

Hey Josha, would you do us a favour and trim your replies like it says under the text edit box? - "Please trim as much of the quoted (> ) message as possible (anything that is not relevant to your posting)." It's wearing out the scroll wheel on my mouse. :-)

Glad you liked them. Thanks! Something a little different anyway. Didn't mean to make you feel small ;)

Thanks a lot Josha! Yeah, the skier was "somewhat" tiny in the frame, lol--even the more cropped one. Not bad, though, for something more than 6 Km away with the 100-400. Good light and contrast helped. If 13,899 fellow DPRevewers each sent me just one dollar I could remedy this with the EF 800mm f/5.6L. :)

Choppers are fine when the air is relatively smooth and you're not worried about breakfast coming back up ;)

thanks Oilman. Have not been shooting much or participating much. Have our second child on the way, and have been either working or helping out at home. there is no paucity of great shots on the thread though. I dont think I have anything that can quite compete, but may put a couple of humorous ones.

As I recall, they are all action all of the time.

I suspect you are chronicling that action (grin)

I don't do a lot of action shooting sports, automotive, racing, etc so I dug through and found some of my dogs which were doing some active activities.
