Tuan and I went to the SF Zoo today and had good results. He used his 70-200L IS w/ my 2x TC on his 1D, and I used my 70-200L IS with my 1.4x tc on my 1D, and we got some amazing results. This was one of our most rewarding trips so far!

Because of how good the 1D AF and metering is, we didn't need to touch up pretty much anything. Everyone of these shots are straight from the camera.

Ozy,

Absolutely stunning shots! Were any or all handheld?

nice stuff for sure. Cannot go wrong there.

Love the clarity.

Live life, it's the only one you've got . . . . .

Hmmm.. I didn't shoot that show. My partner Mike did with my 16-35L on his D30. I do see they have a yellow cast to some of them. Probably a mismatch of color balance that he didn't correct. Where's an expdisc when you need one! Doh!
Chicks and cars and now birds?

What gives, man?

Actually, what's up with your glamou con shots? They're all
yellow. Did you use a Sigma for those?

I was so impressed with your shots and I saw you said you didn't do much processing to them. Please forgive me but I couldn't contain myself and processed a couple only to repost here that is all. They are so wonderful that I wanted to reinforce the power you captured. Thank you for sharing and I hope you don't mind.

I knew that I could have fixed up some contrast and levels on a few of the shots, but the reason I didn't was to illustrate how compared to my D60, the 1D requires almost no touchup if at all. Plus, since I didn't shoot today in RAW (i only had a single microdrive with me), I don't like reprocessing JPGs either. When I printed these guys out on my S9000, I did quite a bit of processing but I knew it was going straight to print and not back to JPG.

These are by far some of the best zoo images I've seen posted. Excellent work! I'd adjust the levels/contrast on the flamingo...doh, looks like someone already did that for you!

The only thing more you really could have hoped for would have been some action in a few shots.

Again, nice work.

Excellent images.

The images remind me of why I want more pixels. I want to pull more detail out of bird plummage as the individual fibers of the feathers tax the sensors. I'd like a D90 on a D30/D60 size sensor:-)

I'm so accustom to the 1.6X crop factor that I'm sure I wouldn't know how to act with a full frame sensor such as in the 1Ds:-o

the use of the teleconverters. I used a 1.4x and tuan used a 2x. We tried to stop it down as much as we could, but the priority was the shutter speed of course. The 1D has a good amount of detail in it. I assume you are talking about the detail on the full size images. I don't own a 100-400 and won't likely either because bird detail is for fun and not for business.
