Hello everyone :)

I recently got an eos1D for landscape, nature, seascape because i wanted to catch moments i may have missed. Read many positives : smooth tones, vibrant colour & ofcourse blazing af & tracking.

Well after photoing with it, i felt the 1D was doing everything ! I was just pointing & pressing shutter. Super cam as it delivered every time. I know now why pros like em ... pressed for time have to get it right time after time.

But it had taken away my enjoyment of photography. I want to feel involved in the moment. I want to decide on all exposure variables. I want to manually select a lens and manually focus. Ok there will be moments ive missed, yet these are part of my enjoyment and involvement ... finding those few keepers and feeling yeah i put myself into this photo.

So here are just a handful with my Ep1 & my legacy primes (vivitar 28/2.8, zuiko 50/1.8, zuiko 100/2.8).

I like the ones with the colorful boats the best. Shooting with an overcast sky isn't easy, but the color off the hulls and reflections makes up for the sky.

The Nigel Prior was only £90,000 a few years ago, if you're shopping. :)

Shame on you 453C, this is obviously a thinly disguised selling post, and you know forum rules about this! I'm surprised you didn't just blatently post a link to eBay UK Deep Sea Trawling Vessel Auctions.

If Admin allows this kind of thing to go on, where will it end? I already have a deep suspicion about all those cat photos over on the Canon forum - a clandestine feline trading ring if ever there was one!

Shame on you, DD! I only mentioned the Nigel Prior as a possible camera support for the OP during his sessions on the Thames. Doesn't every serious photographer have at least one cargo ship in their support system?

Cargo ship? That's yesterday's equipment - you want a nice new Sunseeker with in-boat stabilisation...

DD, I figured the same kind of person that'd complain about a stabilization suggestion would also make such a poor suggestion. All of that newfangled garbage will never supplant the supreme stability of a reliable cargo ship. It's simple physics!

Rubbish - a modern plastic hull and in-boat stabilisation is a much more lightweight and versatile solution for all-day shooting (the best ones are painted white with an attractive red line around the poopdeck).

You try taking your old cargo ship onto the Norfolk Broads for a day's shooting and see how far you get!

...they are great pictures and I know what you mean about taking control back, there's also much to be said the tactile enjoyment of using mechanical lenses.

. . . How can I get onto a broad from Norfolk?

I'll second the apology, and add that we only wanted to keep your thread afloat on the first page a little longer. The E-M5 has torpedoed quite a few low traffic threads this week.

I think No. 2 could be a real winner with some PP. Boost the saturation, bing up the shadows a bit, crop out some of the sky and see what you get.

Also, some WB issues on the last two-a little too cold.

:)

Please no apology needed.
It's all cool. Made me laugh.

Thank you. Ep1 is real smooth for me with manual lenses. I did miss focus on a few yet i got a lot out of it. Really enjoyable.

Thank you i will give it a go. 2nd to last is cold i hadn't thought of that will see different wb, though i quite like cool blue of the last.

...

Kind regards.

In case you are not aware...Canon has a long flange distance so you can buy adapters for legacy manual focus SLR lenses and you can have even more manual control over your photographic "experience". You have to do everything, including stopping down so it is as "all you" as you could want. There are adapters with AF confirmation or you could swap out the focusing screen to one tailored for manual focusing.

1D is 1.3X crop so you will be able to use almost all of the FOV instead of just the middle portion on your EP1.

I have the EP1 also I have used manual lenses on them

Hi Dennis

I received my om> canon adapter. It was an inexpensive ebay. Was quite a jam fitting it onto 1d & more of a jam taking it off. Maybe i should look for a more expensive adapter.
