In love with Color Efex Pro Detail Extractor

I use it or Tone Contrast. They seem to give the same result. I usually use the default setting and adjust the opacity of the layer in PS to get some pop that looks more natural.

Just watched a video by Matt Kloskowski yesterday and saw that he used Color Efex Pro. So I thought I would try it out. Boy did I fall in love with the detail extractor. It's amazing. I'm a huge fan of HDR and the HDR look and this fits the bill.

Great software and just wanted to share. Taken with Nikon D7000 and Nikon 16-85mm

This is what I did in Paint Shop Pro X4, I just cannot spring the money for nik at this time.

Here I lightened the photo with fill background then added clarity and increased colour slightly

Then in smart sharpen I removed the background leaving just the dog and sparingly added unsharp mask.

Then a very small amount of Tone Mapping, alas not as good as your results. But like I say I might be able to afford Topaz but certainly not Nik.

And Topaz needs wait till I've gotten a new stove and refrigerator.
