What is the best adapter for Canon EF Lenses?

There were reports that EXIF data was not being provided with the Metabones adapter and some EF lenses. Do you know if these issues have been resolved? Thanks.

I remember too that there were reports a couple of weeks ago asking to return the adapter for fixing. I am waiting for one with AF which I think will be soon. Too much money for MF anyway.

Kipon has a good one that allows for manual change of aperature. It goes for around $125 on the Bay from Bond's in HK. Amazon has a couple of models with good ratings that also allow for aperature control. The Fotodiox goes for $79 and the other one goes for $55.

I had the fotodiox adapter for Canon EF. The lens stays wide open (f2.8 for my L lenses). Therefore, when you change the aperture on the adapter, there is significant vignetting, as seen with the 100mm 2.8 L lens. This is very limiting. Someone said you could preview the DOF on the Canon DSLR, and removing the lens would keep that aperture. I never tried that. The Metabones/Conorus adapter is electronically connected to the NEX, so aperture can be controlled from the camera, IF it works.

...indeed that text could do with several comas (at least),
so here goes my attempt at interpreting Conurus' rather cryptic text:
  • Tested Camera Bodies (Adapter firmware Ver.01): NEX-7, NEX-5N, NEX-FS100, NEX-VG10, NEX-5, NEX-3;
  • Tested Lenses (Adapter firmware Ver.01) Canon zooms, Canon primes, Contax N AF lenses modified by Conurus, Sigma/Tokina lenses:
  • EF 16-35/2.8L II USM ;
  • EF 17-40/4L;
  • EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6;
  • EF 28-80/3.5-5.6 II;
  • EF 28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM;
  • EF 50/1.4 USM;
  • EF 50/1.8 II;
  • EF 85/1.2L II USM;
  • EF 85/1.8 USM;
  • EF 200/2.8L II USM;
  • Extender EF 1.4x III;
  • Vario-Sonnar 24-85/3.5-4.5;
  • Planar 50/1.4;
  • Planar 85/1.4;
  • Makro-Sonnar 100/2.8;
  • NAM-1 adapter (see note);
  • Sigma 17-35/2.8-4 EX HSM ASPH;
  • Sigma 18-125/3.5-5.6 DC OS HSM;
  • Sigma 24-70/2.8 EX HSM;
  • Tokina AF 28-80/3.5-5.6;
Note: mount Contax 645 lens on modified NAM-1 first, before
attaching both on Metabones Smart Adapter

PS which means that a compatibility of EF 35/1.4L and 300/4L IS
remains unclear (both were reported to have issues with Conurus
adapter). Personally I'd love to know how it works with EF-S 10-22?

EFIX is passed, The Metabones (Conurus) adapter works with my ZE 21, ZE 50, ZE 100, 24-70L, and 70-300L.I've seen one report where it works fine with the EF-s 10-22 (I think thats the one). This was taken with the ZE21

In case the exif doesn't show its 1/100sec at f8 ISO 100 21mm

Thats OK, I just didn't want to carry another camera (1ds2) around just to change the aperture on a lens I want to use on the NEX. When (if) I get some other lenses with manual aperture rings then I'll get the el-cheapo adapters as well.

The manual aperture adapters flat don't work. Conurus is the only way to go

EXIF data works just fine on my Metabones adapter that I just tested today with a 50 1.4. Works as advertised and is fully automatic.

Does your Metabones adapter allow for auto focus with your EF lenses?

God gave us an incredible world. See it, hear it, Touch it, taste it, smell it, PHOTOGRAPH IT!

No, but I'm mainly using Zeiss ZE lenses anyway and there was no autofocus with the Canon. But its a heck of a lot easier with the NEX!

I've tried the $55 adapter from Amazon with the EF 50f1.4 and the EF 28f1.8 on my Nex 5n and it works fine. I have also tried the Kiopon fd to Sony E adapter on couple of FD lenses.

I am kinda groovin on manual focus. That being said, I still ordered the new SEL50f18 from B&H today.

I bought the Kipon EF-Nex adapter and have found it to be good but does not allow for changing of aperture. The Metabones EF-Nex from Conurus is very good and allows for aperture control. Unfortunately the lens I bought it for the 70-200mm f4 L IS USM does not allow for IS (image stabilisation) with this adapter.

Hence I am waiting for the firmware to be updated to correct this problem. If you are prepared to wait for the updates, which hopefully can be done without sending back the adapter (I am hoping they will send out cables which allow for reprogramming of the adapter on a PC), then by all means get this adapter. There is a little wobble in my adapter too, unlike my Metabones Leica M-Nex adapter which is rock solid.
