K-5 replacement

They just unveiled their secret weapon called the K-01. A K-5 replacement announcement now would be a major buzz kill. Me thinks we will have to wait just a little longer.

Not much, I preferred the deeper grip on the Silver Limited version. I'm fed up with the mode wheel (does anyone else find it uncomfortably hard/sharp?). Maybe up & down buttons like the ME Super Ev adjust, with 2 button push back to P or Green. Improved video (but not at the cost of the low ISO beauty of the current sensor) which should then entail its own Start/Stop control. USB3.0 (finally appearing on D800). Faster image processing... utilization of full XD card speeds.

Still a lot of caveats on improvements, that they don't throw the baby out with the bath water. No request to seriously change the form factor nor up the sensor's MP.
Hey, I'm just curious why there is no word of a k5 replacement yet.

Just enjoy K-5! It´s still the best APS-C camera out there, so no need for replacement, yet. And if you have extra money, get some (more) limiteds (the FA, for exemple).

Not enough AF sites and the existing ones are too big. The grip could do with a bit of a redesign. If I had big hands it would be a real issue. Brighter viewfinder is always nice.

There won't be a K5 replacement. The K5 is a wonderful camera that should give you years of fantastic performance. Surely Pentax will bring out other great dSLR. But surely they won't be replacements for previous cameras.

There is nothing wrong with the K5, so it doesn't need replacing. Hopefully many new dSLRs will come out before my K5 needs replacing. And when that sad moment comes, there will be another great camera around.

Meanwhile I'll pass the time taking photographs.

Well if the do replace the K5 and use the Sony 24Mp sensor then you can be guaranteed that high ISO performance and frame rate will not be as good as the K5. In some respects it will be a step backward although they most likely will make some improvements to auto focus tracking speed and accuracy, phase detect auto focus in low light and flash exposure accuracy plus they might add a swivel screen and a deeper luxurious grip like the K5 silver. Would suffice just to add all those improvements to the existing K5 but the marketing people never see it like that. So 24Mp is will more than likely be.

The replacement of the K-5 will NOT have the Sony 24MP.
It will have a new! 16MP Sensor, made by Sony.
We will see the new Body in September/Photokina.

Earlier this Summer will come the new lowbudget camera, later than the 2 other at Photokina.

No, the K-5 is NOT discontinued. It is still in production. The K-R is discontinued, probably because they are retooling for production of its replacement, which i do NOT believe was the K-01 ! Probably production is soon up and running, so we will se a realease in spring. K-S ? then in september K-3 as successor, not replacement to K-5 ?
That would be my guess.

You're right. The M2HB has been in production since 1921. Having had one, I can tell you it's a lot more expensive to feed than buying film. ;-)
Not much ofcourse but that has never stropped anyone from making a successor to something that stil works, Only exception maybe the .50 caliber machinegun...
What's wrong with teh K5?

limits.

Does this mean that it's all going to be about improved video and frame rate? Two things that mean zip for me.

We are now into a disagreement on semantics. As I see it, at some point, Pentax will stop manufacturing the K-5 and will start manufacturing a new camera model, presumably with higher specifications of some kind. Most people would call that camera a replacement for the K-5, but you are free to call it anything you wish. Whether it will be significantly better than the K-5 is yet to be determined, but generally speaking, technology gets progressively better, not worse.

Pentax have still enough K-5 bodys on stock till September, but now they are produce the replacement.
Name is not K-3.
A couple of bodys are waiting for daylight this year.
It will be a very interesting Photokina in september.
The qualityrange is on high K-5 level of course :)
They are not using the actually Sony 24MP Sensor.
I like that :)
I think in Summer Pentax will tell something about it for public.
Best regards

Cool. If the K5 gets replaced, I'll only be able to get it for even cheaper.
