Sorry but when I read the posts about the X10 in this forum, it seems like it is a completely incapable camera that should be recalled by Fuji and recycled into paperweights!

I have been on dpreview forums since 2003 and I use some good cameras (5D MK II, Fuji X100 and Fuji X10)

I do see the limitations of the Fuji X10 by some of the "orb" samples posted here. And I would go as far as not recommend any night photographer who uses long exposures to buy the X10.

But when I read the posts here it seems like one can't take any good photos with the X10 - probably because those threads get burried since they don't contain the words "orb" or "returned" in context to the X10?

I read post after post that people are going "orb hunting". Is this what it has come down to in terms of Fuji photography, or has this Fuji forum just gotten into a frenzy?

My (or probably all) 5D MK II has a issue where you take a shot at night or in a dark situation and have a bright light just outside the bottom of the frame, it'll produce a nasty flare into the image. Kind of like a light leak on an analog camera. It is some kind of reflection off the mirror onto the sensor. The photo is useless and this was an issue way back on the Canon forums for a day or two. We all know it and we also know how to avoid it. End of story and get on with photography!

And maybe it is a good idea for the sake of the joy of photography to finally do the same on this forum?

So once again, there is an issue with the X10 that seems to be not fixable to 100% We now know it and we either have to deal with it or we have to get rid of the camera an get something else that fits our style of shooting better.

I for my part have taken a few thousand images with the X10 and am mostly pleased with what I got in a small package for that price.

Here are some of the photos I have taken with the X10 and anyone feel free to join in and post your favorite shots.

Enjoy photography with what ever cam you like and choose :-)

Or go ahead and bash me for beeing intolerant ;-)

Lovely shots. Not enough orbs in them though. :)

I'm with you! Let photographers take pictures and the rest do what ever it is they desire!

DigiDaan,

Your photographs are amazing and clearly demonstrate skill and talent! Let the good times roll! :-)

Excellent & interesting set Smatty!

I agree & so,....here are my humble additions from yesterday.

Just snapshots after work yesterday, no certain subject matter in mind just trying to catch some nice light before the sun went down....

And just before bed last night at 1600 iso....

Thanks for starting this thread. :)

Dan.

Super shots, I can feel the atmosphere of the concert coming right out of them.
You nailed the compositions DigiDaan!

Dan.

Thanks Dan! The manual zooming is very handy. The only problem I have with it is that it zooms the other way around than Canon zooms do (zooming out clockwise, zooming in CCW, the Fuji has the opposite).

To answer your question, no, I have been doing nothing else except orb hunting.

Every night just before I drop off to sleep I see a bird made of money taking off and flying away, leaving only a black egg behind (my X10).

I've been cultivating a shooting style that brings out the worst in this camera: Canvas-like texture in shadow areas, Orbs everywhere, and now I find out that sometimes only half the pixels are used by the raw processor.

It's especially good to tell people loudly that this X10 is a piece of junk, especially in the rough neighborhoods. Yes, it is a brick. Worthless!

People with no taste and even less discernment seem to like the pictures I've been taking with it, however, and these are the people I care about most.

So, I'll keep my X10, and I'll be taking my time getting around to doing the software upgrade.

Besides, with the nice super macro function, it is now my go-to camera for fungus photos.

When the seekers of faults get tired of the Fuji X10 I invite them to buy a Sigma camera. No end of fun! Get ready for numerous books if any of them gets ahold of a DP2!

Seriously, with any camera, Sigma or Fuji, just do everything right and the result looks great.

Thank You for saying what you did , my thoughts exactly. I was thinking this when I went to sleep last night. I take 50,000+ images a year. I love the x10! the camera is great. Just use it and enjoy. If you want perfection you won't find it.
Go spend $6000 and buy a Nikon D4 or D800, or a Canon x1 or 5D,
But don't be so picky picky, its crazy the way you all are talking.

Are you all selling your images? are you making 30x40s, or are you making 4x6s or not printing at all? I have never heard such bantering in the Pro community as I do here.
Enjoy photography, use it or lose it.

Wake up, The camera is great for the money, sharp , small , takes great pictures and for me a Pro, its perfect for what I want it to be, a fun easy to carry and gives me a break from carrying my heavy cameras. Its there when I need it and take it with me everywhere I go.
Stop all your Orb hunting. Fuji has done a great job on this camera.

And as my previous poster who started this thread before I did, you can bash me all you want , just enjoy the camera and move on show us your great work and tell us about your photography.
Would I recommend the camera? Absolutely !

I stopped posting on this forum as soon as I understood that I have to buy a camera with orbs, to be one of the crowd. So now I am saving money to buy a cam with orbs, so that I can hang around with the crew and whine.

Cheers! :)

I am dreaming to enhance the sensitivity of my own perception and not the sensitivity of my camera's sensor...

So happy to see this thread.

Don't know why, but dpreview forums seem to be chock full of crazy people fixated on the silliest things, more so than any other photography forum that I've ever been on.

I'm loving my X10, here's a few....

Good pics! So refreshing to see a thread free of pathological orb-hunters. This is a well thought-out little camera that hasn't failed to give me great results. Orbs=non issue in my usage.

I await the day when the orb fanatics have all bought something else, and this forum is mainly a discussion about how to get the best from the X10. Right now, it's tedious.

Yes, Smatty, thank you so much for your sentiments - I agree with you completely. I really enjoyed your set of photographs - and have a roof shot very similar to yours which I took in Melbourne recently. Where was yours taken?

This was taken in Federation Square, Melbourne.

DigiDaan - your club shots are great!! Just shows how a contrasty scene can be handled correctly by the camera in the right hands.

I have officially resigned from the orb debate. This camera has got me out there photographing again - and that's more important to me than sitting in front of a computer reading endless whining posts.

Great pictures!

You do not have to save for X10.
You don't need to join this whining forum.
I bought a Sony HX100V after checking the Sony Forum.
There, people do not complain and praise the camera.
For me the HX100V is useless even at ISO 400 (for photo).
So, what I do?
I enjoy X10, so far I've used HX100V one day only!
I kept HX100V for video.
