I realize I could be criticized for caring about the "appearance" of a camera if I am going to buy it... But I do care about it. And I recently returned the silver 45mm F1.8 because it looked so terrible on the black GH2 (plus balance was all wrong...).

Anyone seen any images of the silver EM5 with a silver lens?

I'd prefer the black body EM5 (just preordered it) but now I am thinking that the silver lenses will look a LOT better on the silver camera. And black lenses will look good on either.

Question: Has anyone seen a photo of Silver EM5 with a silver lens like the 12mm or 45mm?

The grip and battery pack look better on the all black version.
The silver one, though, is gorgeous.

Ciao!

I prefer the black EM5. I like the contrast between the silver lens and the black body. Plus, I don't like the silver lens on the silver body because the silvers don't actually mesh or match. They are two different shades and textures of silver, which kind of bugs me. I think it should either match, or contrast. The silver on silver doesn't contrast, but it doesn't quite match either. I think it would have looked better if the silver finish on the body did a better job of matching the silver finish on the lens, or vice versa. Maybe they might match up better in real life, but looking at photos and videos it's apparent that they have different tint and finish of silver. That's just my 2cents.

I'll be getting the black body. Plus, I like the stealthier nature of black. Even with a silver lens, a black body will be less visible and conspicuous than a silver lens on a silver body.

I ordered the silver kit from Henry's. The salesman couldn't confirm that the kit 12-50 lens supplied is in fact the silver version. I king of like that combination.

This bugs me too : .

The 12mm lens (and presumably the upcoming 75mm lens) have a golden silver look compared to the plate metal finish of the E-M5.

Hmm. What to do...

Yes, that's a good way to describe the silver lens finish...it's a "golden silver", versus the E-M5's plate metal finish.

Even though the differences are there... Silver even w/silver lenses looks hot!

Both are win though!

Pretty sad that they didn't match the color of lenses to OM-D body.

The OM-D body looks less shinny too.

I guess Magnesium Alloy coating can be tricky.

On the other hand I'm sure in real life it'll hardly be noticeable.

Yeah, I'm with you. The belief that "real artists" don't care what their tools look like is always a little offensive to me. I'm an artist and I care about how all kinds of things look, including my tools. It's not as important as how the tools work, but usually tools that work well start to look better to me.

Anyhow, I like the leatherette on the silver version better, but over all I prefer the black on black. Just wish the leatherette/rubber was the same on both. I plan to get the vertical grip. Though I have a Silver OM-1 that I am fond of, I got it because the black OM-1s have worse brassing and are more expensive. I still prefer black. I wish they made black versions of their 45mm and 12mm lenses. But I don't mind the silver on black either.

Best,
Seth

I agree with you about the leatherette/rubber. I like that better than the herring-bone pattern on the black body's grip. Too bad you can't also choose which texture pattern the grip has. I prefer the black body, but with the silver body's leatherette grip pattern. The geometric herring-bone pattern looks too "modern". The leather pattern looks more classic, like it was pulled right off a 1970's SLR.
