Official D800 pictures up!

36MP seems a bit overkill, sharp handled shots will be harder to get with the D800.
Please explain that bit of logic. It might expose your poor technique but it can't possibly make a picture less sharp.
I invite you to read the 1000 treads talking about the matter and making your own tests before attacking my skills.
Sorry I didn't mean to disparage your skills. Perhaps I should have said "ones" skills.

My point still stands. Higher resolution cannot possibly make a picture less sharp. If you handhold then it will be the same at least. Nothing lost except some memory space. But you have the option of using higher shutter speed or tripod to get a sharper picture.

Hopefully the shutter is better than my D700 having a loud annoying sound..

During wedding service in church the D700 sound of the shutter is very noticeable

Other than that the camera is wonderful

Time well tell how the shutter on D800 is like

Would you go to an aging 5DmkII from a D700. Surely not. And what makes you think the 5DmkIII would have better qualities than a D800. One is not forced to use all the megapixels, all of the time, right.

Going to a D3s or D4 may make sense, if you really, utterly need higher ISO and frame rate. But those who really, utterly need it, already have a D3s, right ;). Or two of them :)

My equipment: Nikon D3s, D7000
The ladies equipment: Panasonic LX5 and GH2 for video

The D3X is the best bet (I guess), 36MP seems a bit overkill, sharp handled shots will be harder to get with the D800.
This isn't really true in some ways - unless you're looking at the pixels. The overall image with movement will looks just as blurred on the D3x or D800 - the blur (and everything else) will be caught in more detail thats all.

IE a shake of 1% frame coverage is still 1% on either sensor.

A more correct statement would be that it would be more difficult to get the most out of 36MP than 24MP.

Not sure why you'd think its the "best bet" at more than double the price and less nearly everything else.

No, it was more a concern for the D3X owner who spent 9K (with tax) and will lose about 6-7K by selling it on the grey market. (who will put more than 3K in a D3X when the D800 offers more resolution, better live view and pro video ?)

Also, I was referring (without writing it...) to the hypothetical problems D800 users will encounter next months by complaining about AF issues, softness etc... you never know and the D3X is a very well constructed camera.

May see a baby D4 annouced a couple of years time....wouldn't matter to Nikon as they would sell more ££/$$ E in accessories like Lenses, Flash, etc.

Looking forward in seeing the new lenses that are bound to come along in 2012....

A little off topic but the D7000 menu item D11 gives you a mirror up delay to stop the just mentioned vibration.

I own the D700 and D7000 and could sell both and replace with the D800. Both? Either? What I high class problem to have.

Yep, and another work around is quiet mode (which slows the shutter). I use timer+1s exposure delay for landscapes but neither technique is usable for birding, unless you can accept
