Official D800 pictures up!

....finally the resolution I've been waiting for in a SLR type body.

Goodbye 4x5!!!!
Absolutely. I've been waiting for a high rez Nikon for years. Finally. I don't know how close it will be to my 4x5 negs, but I'm fairly confident it will be close enough. No more upscaling to print 16x20.

Even though I don't use my 4x5 anymore, I can't stand to part with it. 4 fabulous Nikon 4x5 lenses that served me well in the past. Maybe some day I'll photograph with it for old times sake.

D3x users are gonna be selling those things on ebay methinks. Man and I bet the pricetag of the D800 will be much more reasonable. That D3x was such a bluff by Nikon...

At 16x20, I don't think the 4x5 would offer any tangibl benefit. I've found that as long as I have a real 240ppi or greater on print, there isn't often a visible benefit to going higher for large output. For the D800, it means pretty much native output 240ppi on a 20x30....my largest standard print size. But even a 24x36 at 205ppi would be acceptable to me.

Now....hopefully the price fits with my excitement!

Hopefully the shutter is better than my D700 having a loud annoying sound..

During wedding service in church the D700 sound of the shutter is very noticeable

Other than that the camera is wonderful

Time well tell how the shutter on D800 is like

I'll keep my D3X, cause it still produces great images.
On the other hand my D4 will arrive in 10 days ;-)

could be right, the cam looks smaller than a D700.
Are my eyes deceiving me? Or am I right in saying the new D800's is closer in size to the D7000 than the D700?

Getting one as well Janne. Only need to convince my wife ;). I told her I may sell the D7000, here in Brazil it's so overpriced I may end up with a D800 bought in the US for nothing.

And I may go for the AA-less version, I'm a sucker for detail.

Good shooting and good luck
(after Ed Murrow)

I love it - have to probably give the idea of having any pixel binning options built in the camera..... Anyway good res DX mode is a plus.

If you have no interest in video, or buy a D4 therefore.

The D3X is the best bet (I guess), 36MP seems a bit overkill, sharp handled shots will be harder to get with the D800. Does the D3X have live view ?

One word....."Tripod."

No landscape or still life shooter should be without one. All your shots will now be sharp.

I'll take the smaller D800 body any day when out in the field.
