Tablet has micro sd slot - camera uses SD card - question

Jeff-

I've just given Maria a link which I'm sure is just what she wants..a lead that gives her a USB OTG into which she can plug her SD camera card via a card-reader.
Seems OK for the job.. pricewise.. she can't lose (hardly)...

"The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab™ USB & SD Connection Kit allows you to truly expand the capabilities of your Galaxy Tab™. The SD Adapter allows you to transfer multimedia files from an SD or micro SD card to your tablet's internal storage in a matter of seconds. The USB Adapter turns your SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab™ 10.1 into a USB host, allowing you to connect compatible USB accessory devices such as keyboards, mice, thumb drives and more to your Tab™. (USB Cable not included) (Neither device compatible with SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab™ 7.0)"

Looked great until that last sentence!

As I mentioned in my reply, the 7" model doesn't appear to support USB-connected memory devices (at least, it doesn't with the Samsung adapter). Still, it could be worth trying a cheap adapter.

I read somewhere in my searching yesterday that some accessories work with the Samsung Galaxy 7 Plus that do not work with the "older Galaxy 7.0. However, I think on the Samsung website that they would clarify that by this time.

BTW, thanks for taking the time to help out here. :-)

Maria...

Stop worrying.. this is exactly what Jeff was talking about.. and this IS a HOST USB adaptor,..plugs into the 30-pin socket you have on your Galaxy 7 and it has a FULL USB socket into which you can plug a card reader with the full SD card that you always use in your camera.

It's from HK as usual .. but worry not.. you will rememeber I'm sure the excellent cases we've had from over there in the past..I've bought lots of things..and had NO problems

For the nominal cost it's worth a chance anyway..but this is your complete answer.. trust me...

Thanks Eric.....I appreciate this information. This is probably what I will get. I am going to inquire on the Samsung website about the accessories for the Galaxy 7 Plus as I read somewhere that this model will work with some accessories that actually do not work with the Galaxy 7.0.

Maria-

It seems to me that this may well be yet another case of the makers just not doing easily what such as these HK guys quickly find a way to do. Same with the iPads... Apple make two quite separate adaptors to plug into the multi-socket.. whereas the HK products do it much more simply on ONE plug-in with two separate slots...

For what is such a low cost I'm sure that it just can't be bad to try that HK adaptor for your Plus 7..it DOES say it is for that one...

And THAT of course means you just use your general SD card for both Tablet and camera - no messing about with MicroSD at all.

the eye-fi card stays in your camera and sends the images wireless using wifi to your tablet... no wifi access point required... the card has an wifi access point integrated in it...
How about the Eye-Fi wireless SD card?

Hi Steve,

Actually I don't know about the Eye-Fi - I will have to read more about it as I have heard of it, but don't know anything about it. It would also have to fit into both the SD Micro slot and the regular SD slot.

Thanks for your suggestion.

You can get an Eye-fi card which fits in your camera and automatically transfers images wirelessly to your tablet. No cables or adapters needed.
Thanks....I will look into this.

Does it just fit into the SD card slot - and work the same way?

Thanks for any info. I will do a google search. I've heard of it, but from afar - and have not looked into it at all.

I emailed Olympus to ask if I could use a micro SD Card with the regular SD to MicroSD adaptor that fits into the SD slot. Yesterday I got a reply that simply said:
I don't know if they did not read or understand the question - or if the person replying did not know about the adaptor - or what?

I don't know why they would say no when people are doing it without it causing a problem.

Yes, it fits in a standard SD card slot and works as any other card.

I got the 8GB Eye-Fi pro X2 on sale. It will transfer directly to a tablet without requiring a WiFi network.

Thank you very much. I have really learned a lot on this thread. :-)

Quite frankly Maria, neither do I understand that reply. It sounds like it could well be about on par with a lot of replies these days from various firms - they so often give either just a blurb that means nothing - or a response that equally gives no real (sometimes not true !) explanation.
I suspect whoever wrote that maybe doesn't know what a MIcroSD card is !!

I don't pretend to have used it in just about every possible item of equipment - but as I have always understood - and indeed found - a MicroSD card performs exactly the same as a full SD card.. it just needs that adaptor with the proper connections, to let it work when it is contained in the bigger size 'standard' SD container.. but ALL connections match..so why they say it doesn't work is anybody's guess.

Honestly - that Ebay adaptor lead is so cheap that you can't lose anything worth thinking of.. it will NOT harm the Tablet.. if it doesn't in fact work...it'll likely just not display...but I bet you it WILL !!!

Wi-Fi cards are OK..but very expensive compared to the same capacity as a normal top-class SD ... such as a Class 10 is much better I feel myself... and you can do the same - even if it is not Wi-Fi ...

I'm sure I've also read/heard that these Eye-Fi cards tend to work a LOT slower..not sure about that as I've never used one.. but I'd prefer to stick to conventional good SD any day .. Class 10 type if possible.

Someone at the company will just read off of the specifications. The micro-SD/adapter combination isn't listed as an option, therefore it isn't compatible! In other words, they have no idea, so the easiest answer is "no."

I recently purchased the Galaxy 7 Plus which has a micro SD slot. My camera only uses SD cards. Besides using my home computer to get the files uploaded to the Tablet, is there any way I can get images from the camera SD card to the Table when I am away from home with no access to a pc?

I want to be able to take my camera and the Galaxy Tablet on trips - and be able to view the images I take with the camera (SD card) on the Tablet.

Is there a way to do this? I know there is an adaptor that will let the micro SD card work when there is a regular SD slot - but not the opposite.

I hope this explanation makes sense.

Thanks for any information and/or help.

It looks a little fragile, but this is literally what you want

http://club.dx.com/reviews/text/27001

but I think the other workarounds suggested are probably better.

i assume by now you have found a workable solution.

what did you get?

I ran into the exact same problem with my new Windows 8 mini laptop that I travel with, but I didn't want to use MicroSD cards in my camera since I generally find regular SD Cards are much cheaper, faster, and also available in higher capacities than MicroSD cards.

I solved the issue by using a converter which allows my regular SD Card to connect to the MicroSD slot on the tablet. It has worked well for me.

The one I use can be found here: https://www.saikosystems.com/web/p-44-sd-to-microsd-converter.aspx
