Hold CorelDraw accountable

I have purchased CorelDrawx4 and found a couple terrible bugs, something that Corel seems to have become an expert at without bothering to fix things for current users. Selective color simply does not work, leaving the selected area with black and white striations. Rotation will only rotate an object one time. The crop tool does not crop all the images on a grouped file; sometimes it even deletes a neighboring image that is unselected.

Long ago I purchased CorelDraw8 and it had an infuriating bug of its own that was never fixed, but I used it all these years with the only workaround to be: use with care. I purchased version x4 because the trial version of x5 was even more buggy. I never expected subsequent versions to be worse than 8. For a program that is supposed to fill the needs of those who cannot afford photoshop, this is a disgrace.

Where did you get X5? I just left the Corel site and there is no mention of an X5.

Why have I not seen your complaints anywhere else? I, too, have used Corel since version 8 and find it perfect for my needs and something I can afford.

Hi Glen,

I have complained about CorelDraw on this forum but no one replied. Thanks for taking the time. I've been trying all day to get CDx4 to crop a CD file with photos arranged into a scene and then grouped for saving. It consist of a background landscape photo with figures cut out in CDx4 and placed selectively onto the landscape. The elements are then grouped.

When I try to crop it, instead of the picture cropping, the background landscape image enlarges, showing only and the figures remain small, making them look like tiny people sitting on leaves. That's not how a crop tool is supposed to work.

(CDx5 has been out for a long time).

You know how you said they have become experts.....well thats because bugs have been evident since Corel Draw Ver. 2 back in the 90's.

They had me faxing pages and pages of directory files to solve printing problem and kept blaming my PC and I'M the only one they've heard of with a problem.

Then guess what months later, lets say about 6 months as with time ive forgotten....they send a patch that fixes MY problem. The same problem that nobody as ever heard about.

So the thing is, moan all you like as they did and will get away with it.

They aint the only ones they're all at it to meet launch dates

Are these patches on their website for public consumption? I have gone there a few times and never found my problems addressed. I googled the crop problem and a person on a forum who gave a video for cropping specified that CorelDraw crop tool deletes all existing images except for the cropped image. This was not fixed until CDx5. So they seem to be aware, but just do not help the current users who throw their money at them thinking they get a crop tool and discover they get crap. How hard is it to fix tools that have been in programs for eons? Are these guys out to lunch? Bill

that's the way it is with them. I'd love to buy painter 12 but they still have the file corruption bug that happens on save.

Bill, CorelDraw's bugginess is legendary, i have used it since version 3 and it long has been noted that there is a 'good' version about every second or third edition that is released.

Running CorelDRAW X5 currently, but don't spend enough time in it anymore(hobbyist-level use rather than professionally) to detect any current bugs.

I have been using CorelDraw for years and have never experienced, nor heard of any issue similar to yours!

For starters, what program are you actually using? CorelDraw consists of its vector program (Draw) and its bitmap editor ( PhotoPaint). When you refer to a CD file are you referring to a CDR file or a CPT file?

Have you experienced this on more than one computer?

Have you installed the X5 trial and used it?

I can crop any Number of layers, in any format (includind PSD), IN EXPANSION MODE OR NOT, and still not duplicate what you mention.

Only when you can criticize yourself, should you criticize others. Mikes.

If you have to work with it professionally, some people use coreldraw as a cheap alternative to indesign and illustrator, you'll find the bugs pretty fast and easy.

If you need the feature and they don't fix it, you're stuck!

Well my only problem with version 8 was that when I selected an image or object to move somewhere else on say a brochure, and then clicked the second time to begin dragging the object the cursor would change to the shape tool cursor and so I was unable to drag and drop. The work-around was to clicked pause before clicking to begin drag. This was infuriating after several years, especially when designing with a deadline.

When I tried version x5, that problem was gone, but the trial version of 5 had at least 4 other problems that discouraged my purchase. So I bought vs x4. I decided to live with the problems I mentioned, but just yesterday it created another bug. One of my images disappeared after I dragged some artistic text to its location. Wow!

I am referring here to CorelDraw and cdrw files, not to PhotoPaint, which is working fine, except for its utterly useless selective color tool. But I have not used PhotoPaint enough to give it a fair evaluation.

Hopefully they will fix the bugs.
