LiPo Grip Question

Oh did I say 4 years? I meant more like 20-40 years. Inotherwords,
for the life of the camera.
You mean my LiPo is going to out-live me?!
Another item to add to the Last Will & Testament.

Hey Mark, can you put me in your Will?

If so, may you not live long and prosper! ;-)

...have you ever considered entering your dog in a "longest snout" competition? ;-)

Regards, Maxven
You do realize that I am impervious to emotional imagery such as
flowers, babies, and pets. I find such things to be trickery meant
to deceive the non-discerning eye into believing that there is a
good picture when in fact it was simply their weakness to fall into
an emotional trap. Awwwwwww... so cute....

Well, it won't work on me mister.

Greyhound owners regularly refer to their dogs as "needle-nose". Actually though, for a Greyhound, his nose is a bit on the short side. Believe it or not!
He did win a "longest tail" contest one time though! :)

I got the LiPo Battery for my E10 (Just the battery). My question
is can I get away with now just buying the grip? Will the battery
charge while in the grip and the camera is plugged in or do I need
that infernal $150 charger?

Thanks,

GAD
--I don't know if anyone answered your original question, I didn't have time to look through all the responses generated, but yes, you need the charger. I bought the set and an extra battery---one respondent stated how the Lipo battery reading (the camera has a battery meter when the Lipo battery is used) fluctuates---mine does too and I can only guess that as it cools down from use the power increases.

LOL, Have you ever known a Greyhound? After they get their 5-minute daily sprint, they stay all TOO well. If fact, you have to peel them from the sofa.
Needless to say, we have two sofas. One for the humans, and one for Zoomer.

Unfortunately, a new grip and charger cost almost as much as the whole kit. Your best bet would be to buy a used kit from someone here and have two batteries for it. If you find a used B-30 (the one with the older, smaller capacity battery) it is very likely the battery in it will be dying soon anyway, as the shelf life (even unused) of Lithium Polymer batteries is only a couple of years. Because of the remaining battery life issue, you might fing a good deal from someone for a used one.

The limited shelf life issue has been discussed here before, and is common for rechargable batteries using Lithium Polymer technology. Those users here talking of their LiPo lasting for 20-40 years have something to learn. The battery shelf life issue is the reason Oly dumped all their remaining B-30 kits on the market last year, where they sold for as little as $199 retail.

I always have more to learn. I guess when I think of it, I wouldn't expect the battery to last that long, but in theory it should. Of course, I drive an 86 Supra with 206,000 miles on it and my last car made it well past a quarter million. So what do I know? Maybe the battery will start losing its power every time I use it until it is barely what it once was. But I'm betting it will last longer than what you said it would and shorter than what I say the theory of its life could be.

So Yeah, I guess I have something to learn. I always will.

...I've been wondering about that too. Maybe it's some sort of electrical shock device to put under your dog so it can't move for 30 seconds?

You need the charger and it takes around 3hrs to charge.

What's this "Wacom Graphire II tablet"?
Oh man, will you guys quit picking on my poor little puppy?!

The Graphire II is the poor-man's digital drawing tablet. Basically, you use a pen to make selections (or draw) on a photograph. Much more accurate than using a mouse. Also, you have the ability to utilize pen pressure, so that precise editing can be done in many levels of depth by varying your pen pressure, much like a real paint brush or pencil.
Here's a link: http://www.wacom.com/graphire/index.cfm

Now you guys better be nice to Zoomer, or I'll tell him you nothing but a big juicy rabbit! (aka - Captain Z: Defender of Universal Canine Justice, http://www.pbase.com/image/2328010

LOL!!!!! That's Great!!!
You have a good sense of humor.

I guess I just miss the white-eye.

I've made a copy of the link. Perhaps I'll get one and see how I like it. Will I be forced to use photoshop? I despair at the prospect of learning a new editing program. I use PSP and I'm good at it. If I goto photoshop, even if it is better, it will be worse for awhile at least. Oh well. Does it force me to use photoshop?

I don't think you'll have any problem using PSP. The tablets are great. My first oine was a REAL cheap one by KB Gear. It had a corded pen. But I only paid $30 dollars for it.

The Wacoms are regarded as the best, and are the industry standard for graphic artists. You can get HUGE tablets that are better for actual drawing, but for photo-editing, I believe the 4x5 GraphireII or the Intuos 6x8 (or is it 9?) work better. And it requires less desk space. My cheapo KB Gear was a 6x8, and I was considering that size in a Wacom, but then you have to go with the more expensive Intuos line. I wasn't ready to spend that yet, so I stuck with the $99 Graphire. One big advantage is the increased pen pressure levels you get with the Intuos. The Graphire is something like 512 levels, and the Intuos give you over 1000. This gives you incredible control with pen pressure.

Trust me, once you get one of these, it's as freeing as the LiPo is. I even find myself using the pen at times (instead of supplied mouse) for web browsing.
