Two New Lenses from Olympus to Arrive after the EM-5.

As far as I know, the difference between 1:2 macro (here, minimum field size about 33.3 x 25mm, about like 1:1 in 35mm format) and 1:1 (minimum field size about 17.7 x 13.3mm, like 2:1) is an extension tube of half the focal length, so here 30mm.

Smaller lenses, better in low light, more telephoto reach:
you can have any two at one time.

75mm f/1.8! I was hoping for something more around 65-70 just out of habit using a 135mm on FF, but a 75mm will do nicely, thanks. The medium-long tele gap will soon be filled, and I am confident it will be as stellar as the 45mm f/1.8. Let's hope it's also reasonably priced.

For me that only leaves a large aperture 35mm equivalent--a 17mm f/1.4 or so. f/1.8 to save cost and size would be ok too. Come on Olympus, make it happen! You're on such a roll with your primes lately.

"1) The 75mm f/1.8. It has a metal design. I haven’t seen that lens yet but I guess it has a similar 12-50mm finishing. It’s a perfect portrait lens!
Is this the first ever Olympus lens that I'd buy?

Moreover so as I publicly, and many times, admitted I desperately need a fast autofocus medium tele?
OMG, it's so exciting, it's almost climactic.
But wait.
It does not have OIS?

And it would be painted screamingly attracting attention consumer-ish "silver" as in "being a metal design?"

Until further details are revealed, the conclusion is unavoidable.
It must be nostalgia forcing people to buy Olympus products.

What I'd like is an Olympus 25/1.8 or possibly 1.4 with MSC design in both silver and black designs.

While the Panasonic 25/1.4 is excellent it does not have ultrasonic AF motor and to me its quite ugly and a bit big.

I'ld like a silver Olympus normal lens to go with my with my silver E-P3 and if it would be released I would sell my Panasonic 20/1.7 (which is great and really small although a bit on the ugly side) and buy the Olympus alternative.

Have a nice weekend,
Johan.

No Olympus lens has built-in OIS and this lens will not be the first. Olympus puts stabilization in their bodies, so no lens is going to have it, but at f1.8, if I had a GH2 or GX1, I think I could live without stabilization. If you REALLY need this focal length and stabilization, Panasonic has a supposedly fast 35-100 zoom coming down the line with OIS you'll be able to buy.

That's a very good question. The word "metal" evokes "premium" and may well mean it's going to be similar to the 12mm f2, which would make it expensive. Not necessarily silver, but.....

We have not yet seen Olympus or Panasonic step on the other's toes in terms of adding new prime lenses that are direct competitors with the other. It's almost like they said, "you take this focal length and we'll take the other...".

I bought and have tried, multiple times, to like the 17mm f2.8. It's a slick setup paired with my silver E-P3 and together with the 12mm f2 and 45mm f1.8, but the Panny 20/1.7 is just too good to not use instead. I would think we are more likely to see an update of the 17 (preferrably speeded up to at least f2) rather than an Olympus 25 that competes with the Panasonic lens just because they do not seem to be duplicating primes.

With the 75/1.8 being termed "metal", we may soon have yet another silver lens to add.
