Can you please supply a before shot of these roses so I can show a (doubting) friend what can be done in PS7 or Painter!!!!!

Actually, the first was done in photoshop and the 2nd two were done in painter. One thing I've been doing in painter is that before I save, I copy to the clipboard and then paste it into ACDSee and save it from there. That doesn't retain the layers but at least I can recover some of my work.

I did look into reference layers. Apparently you cannot paint on reference layers. When you do, they are converted to regular layers so there's no benefit for my situation...
