I hate to ask a question that has probably been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I'm a Canon geek, but just bought the Olympus PEN E-PL1 Micro 4/3 Digital Camera & 14-42mm Lens. I can't find anywhere what size filter fits this lens. I found on Amazon one made by Olympus, but it was $40, and there is no way I'm going to pay that much for a filter.

So, please be patient with me, but can somebody please tell me what size filter gores with the 14-42 lens?

Thank you.

Strange, do Canon lenses not have the filter size printed on the front of the lens? It's right there in front on your new lens. For the Olympus 14-42 mkI it's 40.5mm.

It's always written on the front of the lenses.

If the lens is not to hand then the specs pages show what it is http://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/lense.html

HA! I did a search on Amazon for a 40.5 mm lens filter and in the search results right beside the Olympus brand $40 filter was a Tiffen for $7.99 with free shipping! Hooah!

Thank all of you for your helpful responses!

37mm is for the Mk2 version of the lens, with an e-PL1 he will have the earlier version.

40.5mm, it says on the front of the lens, like every other lens I have ever seen.

I didn't know to look there. I'm not home at the moment, but when I get there, I'll look. However, that said, when I did a search on Amazon for 40.5mm lens filters, the Olympus brand specifically for the PL-2 came up. It would be helpful if they put the specifications for the filter in the description, but I suppose that cuts into their competition.

If you want to look sooner, your lens is at the bottom left. Filter size is after crossed 'O' sign, it's in millimeters.

Who is to put specifications? Which competition?
Here is a page from Olympus USA site, it says 40.5mm filter diameter

Besides, $8 filter is most likely bad.

To reiterate, please be patient with me. I'm learning. Much appreciation for all the help on this thread. I've ordered an $8 Tiffen filter and will be blissful in my ignorance.

Yes, why?
I posted link to the most helpful review of this item. A quote from that review:

"However, I had to return this item since they DON'T contain any anti-glare/reflective coating on them. When shooting towards a light source (light bulb, tv, sun, etc) a green reflection of the light source would appear on the recorded image. The green reflected image was caused by a reflection bouncing off of my lens's green tinted anti-glare coating which was bounced right back into the camera by this filter. If your lens isn't coated in an anti-glare coating the result will be even worse.

Instead I picked up Quantaray filters from a local Wolf Camera that were coated with the anti-glare. They only cost a little more, and the green reflection is now gone. Make sure you look for a filter with the anti-glare "
