B & H's Attitude

Hello,

I've been looking for a camera and in my search, I came across a
camera for $4249 at KEH. Then, I called another company and they
had it for $4000 with a US warranty. So, then I called B&H to see
if they could match the $4000 offer. A guy named Yasi Fogel,
digital sales manager, talked to me on the phone. He was telling
me with pride that they had been in business for 30 years and have
always had the lowest price. When I mentioned about KEH's price, he
realized that he was wrong. I also mentioned about the $4000
camera company, and then he did not want to match the price. He
then went on to insult other companies. I am upset moreso about his
attitude about matching the price rather than him not actually
doing it. With this attitude, I doubt the company will be
continuing for much longer and I hope you take this into
consideration when buying your next camera or any other
accessories. If anyone has B&H's owner's name, I would like to
have it so I can update him on his employee's attitude towards me.

What was the company with the $4000 price? What was B&H's price? Also, did you ask the company with the lower price about shipping charges? Did the item come with everything it's supposed to, or are they going to charge you for accessories that should come in the kit? The lowball dealers play games by charging exorbitant shipping, and charge for accessories that should be included.

Henry,

Thanks for your (expected) even tempered and well worded response. B&H is one of the few companies I know of that has really made the best of the web. I can place a web order for an item from you guys by 3pm and I will see it the next day with your cheapest shipping option 99% of the time (I'm in CT).... what more could I ask for? The few times I've had to return an item, it has been painless and your customer service people were very nice. Your online stock system is accurate and your email communication after the order is excellent. I have spent thousands with you guys and will continue to do so because of your excellent service, competitive prices, and fantastic web site.
Take care,
Matthew

You can talk to me.
Well, the fellow who originated this thread just called me and
after MY experience, I'm going to have to give Mr. Fogel a raise
and an "attaboy" for keeping his cool.

The reason I called was to get a RMA for the flash that I bought.
My money can't go to someboby who doesn't care about the customer.

Henry was interested in doing "more important things" rather than to help me. Between Yasi's and Henry's conversation I can't say either of them cared.
Yes.. give him Big RAISE, it's your money.

I've been always pleased with B&H and I am sure many here and there have been as well.

The all price-matching cr@p should not even be applied to such reputable stores as B&H. If you wanna "save" 9% of a 4K purchase by using "another stores", which I guess are the fishy ones, deal with them or buy a rebel for $200.00

There is also another option, you may check out some Canadian stores as well. The warranty may be an issue, but hey, you'll save another $125.23 for a lens hood or something.

You started this thread complaining because they wouldn't sell a camera for the same price as some of the low rent scammers. And you have been bad mouthing B&H all over the forum in various threads for days. Now you have a problem with a flash unit?? When did you buy this? What's wrong with it??

Girish, take a look at the responses you are getting to any comment you've made about B&H. If you're talking about a bad attitude maybe you should take a look in the mirror. I agree with everyone else that I've gotten great products and service from them. Of course I treat them with the same consideration that I expect to be treated with.

Try being polite next time, it works wonders.
Regards,
Steve

You just want to return it to teach B&H a lesson in customer relations?

This has been an entertaining thread.

But, I, too, am totally with B&H on this. I've done a fair amount of business with them in the past year, all with good results.

Matthew, my experience with B&H mirrors your comments above. Their product selection, prices, and service is unparalleled IMHO.

in my book. I ordered some items a week before Christmas
and they were delivered (nearly cross-country) in 2 days! Always
great service.

I have never known B&H to do price-matching, so I don't know
what prompted the original call to them anyway to try to do
that. It actually occurred to me months ago that all the "buy-and-
try" crowd were playing that game with B&H and ruining their
ability to sustain good prices for the rest of us.

No sympathy for Girish -- no complaints with B&H.

Hmmm I caught you hanging out. LOL. Willa wanted a D60 for Christmas, but she is now hoping for an Epiphany gift. LOL.

Did it ever occur to you that you have the problem communicating with B & H? Almost every message speaks to their excellent service and reliability.

Girish, YOU ARE WAY OFF BASE. For the consumer B&H store is great. You can actually get advice. For the Pro-sumer there pricing is usually close to if not the best, and you always know if it is a grey or USA product. Important to many making a living as a photographer. AS A FORMER Customer/Tech. rep. for a photography equipment supplier I dealt with B&H on an almost daily basis. NEVER A PROBLEM. Just the view from my side of the monitor.

I have purchased a lot of equipment from B&H and never had a problem...I never tried to dicker over price and they never tried to blow any smoke my way.

They appear to be very straight forward (as many here have noted) and honest in their business approach.

A thumbs-up from my point of view.

Pictures can't do the real thing justice, but you gotta' try.

Girish,

Please explain why you didn't simply buy the camera from the place with the $4000 price?

Seems that you'd just buy from there instead of try to get some other company to match the price.

What was wrong with the place with the $4000 price?

B&H has been excellent to deal with. There are only a few online stores I would buy from and B&H is at the top of the list.

What kind of attitude did you bring?

I think Henry's statement about possibly matching "legitimate" offers is the operative issue here. I would hope that you'd have sense enough to know that no reputable retailer can survive by competing with disreputable dealers. B&H is the class of the business. If you've only dealt with them by phone or email, you probably have no idea how amazing their organization is.

While i have been 'disappointed' in a couple of instances at B&H, I will still buy from them, almost exclusively. They have the best facilities, best selection, and STILL the best prices of any 'real' dealer.

Sorry, but you're not likely to drum up any support here. Stating that you don't believe they will be able "to continue" is simply evidence of your faulty perceptions. It's unfortunate that your 'price' could not be matched, but I prefer a dealer who sets low and fair prices and deals with its customers professionally. No haggling. No "special price for you, my friend" BS. If you find better prices, pay them elsewhere and take your chances. If you find better service, accept it and pay the higher prices that usually accompany those small, limited shops. B&H offers the best meld of value and information in a professional environment. If you've been there you know. They aren't like everyone else.

Grish - by now you've probably realized that you've made a mistake with your post.

I just have to make sure that I echo the sentiments of other posters: I've only had good experiences with B&H and, believe me, I've ordered a lot of stuff from them. But then again I've never started bargaining with them and they never tried to add something to my orders (like many other places out there).

If you don't like it that they won't match the price of some shady garage company out there, then don't buy from them. But bashing them here on this forum is just plain wrong.

I've dealt with B&H, both in person and over the telephone and never had a bad experience. I've dealt with KEH, buying both used and new equipment, and never had a bad experience.

My guess is after the holiday rush, everyone at B&H could use some rest and relaxation. That place gets mobbed with people for weeks. Locals, tourists, out of country people, professionals, you name it.

B&H will not always have the best price, but they will almost always have a very good price. Bottom line is both B&H and KEH are good companies and I'm sure there are folks who have had less than happy experiences with each of them.

don't hold you breath for B&H to go out of business.
