hi.... i'm looking for a small low profile bag for the x10. maybe carry an extra battery also. that's it. any recs?

has any one used:

http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/modular-pouch-belt-pack.aspx
or
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/little-stuff-it.aspx

these two thinktank ones look good, but the width is noted at 2 inches. i wonder if it will stretch just enough to accomodate the x10?

or the lowepro terraclime series? maybe the 30? or the 50? (it would be nice to carry the case/camera in the vertical position, so this is less idea. just personal preference):

http://products.lowepro.com/product/Terraclime-30,2113,25.htm

i'm not crazy about the lowepro AW20, which i know some have recommended. seems bulky. some horror stories of camera dropping out when opening/closing.

anyway, any advice (and/or pics of x10 in bags!) would be appreciated.

thanks!

I haven't seen any of the thinktank bags but those two seem more than large enough in width and height, but not deep enough for the X10. Nikon's P7100 is about the same width as the X10 but about 1/4" taller. These dimensions are fine for the two Thinktanks, but the X10 is a bit more than 1/4" deeper at 2.24". One Thinktank lists 2.0" in the internal dimensions for the depth and the other lists 2.0" but doesn't say if it's an internal or external depth. Either way you may have problems with these if they don't easily stretch.

I have these and the Terraclime 30 is too small. I can shoehorn a P7100 into it, but inserting or removing the camera won't be quick, and it'll be much harder if you try it while it's attached to your belt. With its protruding viewfinder, I don't think that the X10 will fit. It has two small internal pouches just about the right size for the X10's NP-50, which would still fit if the batteries were slightly larger.

The Terraclime 50 is much larger. By standing the P7100 vertically, you could get two of them in the Terraclime 50 but just barely. It has three of the same size internal pouches so it could easily hold two batteries and at least two memory cards in the third pouch. It sounds like it would be too large and maybe it would appear that way hanging from your belt, but it's made of a very soft material, so it would fit in a small jacket pocket with ease, because it can be easily compressed to just about the size of the camera that's inside. I also like the way that the case's flap is secured. It doesn't use a zipper or velcro so opening the flap is completely silent.

i'm not crazy about the lowepro AW20, which i know some have recommended. seems bulky. some horror stories of camera dropping out when opening/closing.
I have one of those too and while it would give pretty good protection, it's as you say, very bulky. I can see how a camera could easily fall out while removing it, but I have a wrist strap on my cameras and when I zip the AW20 closed, the thin part of the strap is just thin enough to allow the zipper to close almost all the way, while letting the wider part of the strap dangle outside of the case. By holding the strap while opening the case it should be almost impossible for the camera to slip away. For those that prefer folding the strap so that it's completely inside the case, that can also be done, but it's a little more tedious doing that, and it's also a bit riskier from a dropped camera perspective.

anyway, any advice (and/or pics of x10 in bags!) would be appreciated.
If you're near some dealer that carries these bags, bring your camera and see how it fits. Many dealers should have the AW20, but Thinktank dealers are scarce. Same for the Terraclimes. I only discovered them because one dealer had a used Terraclime 10, which was a pretty good fit for my F70EXR, so I found an Amazon dealer that had the Terraclime 10, 30 and 50 and bought a few. For the slightly larger F550EXR it's a tighter fit but not too bad. It has only a single battery pocket but with the already tight fit I wouldn't put a battery in it. Maybe an SD card.

Here's my Manfrotto VI and X10. The case doen't have a strap or attachment points you just hang the X10 by whatever strap you have on the camera. The case just fits around and you have to remove it from the case to take pics. Works well for me.

I am happy with my little Domke F5XA for the X10. Has enough room for camera plus another small item in the main compartment (charger, cell phone, or similar) and two little outside pockets each large enough for spare batteries or memory cards. The X10 with strap fits easily inside and access is very convenient. If I know I'll be taking the camera out and putting it in the bag frequently I just leave the zipper open and the velcro on the flap of the bag still keeps the camera safely inside.

Very nice construction, and will probably long outlast the camera!

I've been using a small Lowepro video camera bag. I really like it!

The camera pops in and out easily, yet is very secure! Absolutely no chance of the camera falling out when the top is open. There is extra room for batteries and a lens cloth and cleaning pen in side compartments.

I take the camera with me every day! It's either on the pickup seat or slung over my shoulder. Either way the camera is completely protected yet the case is SMALL!

Stephen,

I bought a Lowepro APEX 60AW, fits great and I use it attached to my belt. It also comes with a shoulder strap. For the cam I use a very light wrist strap (black nylon) only.

I use the original leather case and carry an extra battery in my pocket. The advantage over a bag is that I shoot without removing the camera from the case. I like it very much.

That Domke looks great! Is it really upwards of $60 though?

I have the Lowepro AW60. It's ok, but not really what I want. Will the Domke hold the X10 and an EF-20 flash?

+1, you can't beat the size with just a case (you can get them from eBay too). Any kind of bag adds way too much size and defeats the purpose of this camera.

Good luck!

Cashmone,

While I do not own the EF20 flash, I am pretty confident it would fit in the little Domke case. The photos I referenced are one's I took of my own X10 and even with the lower part of the X10 leather case, the lens hood, and camera strap attached there is a decent amount of space left in the main camera compartment. A flexible padded Velcro divider is included to customize the space. If the small Fuji flash is approximately the same size as Canon's 270 EX Speedlight the Domke bag will easily accommodate as I do have that flash.

The bag may be around $60, I do not recall. Got it from Amazon after returning a less than ideal smaller case costing about. $40. No regrets on the Domke. It's a tiny gem, just like the X10 itself! Oh, and one more thing, the Domke can be worn as a belt case if desired. I prefer the excellent non-slip shoulder strap.

Good luck with your decision. There are a lot of nice bags out there.

Thanks for the info Tom! The bag looks great and seems the perfect size for my needs. Maybe it's time to invest.
