I've embraced the derogatory term "Canikon".
I added a "TAXIAN" from "Pentaxian" to my handle here to show my love for all three brands I currently own.
2002 is my 10th anniversary buying into brand new Pentax due primarliy to local shop carrying the brand.
Nowadays no one carries the Pentax locally, which is quite typical in USA market ever since Hoya bought out Pentax in April 2008. That's when the 2 very kinowledgeable local Pentax reps got laid off, April 1st 2008. No need for local Pentax Reps when Hoya retreated their Pentax branded gear from store fronts.
Due to my Pentax full frame frustrations in 2006-2007-2008 I now own Canon and then Nikon gear, all full frame dslrs and full frame lenses, stuff Pentaxians can buy when they go either Canon or Nikon to get the tools they need to fullfill their imaging goals.
I love my remaining Pentax gear, I DO wish there was a full frame option I could have considered in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and now 2012.
I also love the Canon and Nikon gear too.
But alas, I only buy brand new Canikon gear due to their extensive full frame platforms and lens systems.
I still hunt for used Made in Japan Pentax gear, items from their glorious past, you know, classic lenses made to last for years and years of trouble free ownership.
Everything Canikon I bought new in last 4 years still works great, right out of the box.
Oh yeah,
Here's the February 11th 2001 Pentax FULL FRAME DSLR announcement, just a few days short of 11 YEARS AGO now:

Just look how many people here use the canikon derogatory term.
I didn't know that was considered derogatory. Is this a general consensus or just your own? It doesn't really matter to me as I don't use it, just wondering if people could really be upset by it's use.
Think about it Russell: If Nikon users used the term PenSonTax to refer to the companies that were not Nikon or Canon don't you think that would have a negative connotation to it?
Or rather, just look at posts of people that use the term: do you find people that use the term post comments that have positive things to say about Canon or Nikon?
I was always under the impression it was a courtesy to canon and nikon users so that search engines did not find discussions only nominally related to their cameras.
But checking google I think you are correct and its used as a pejorative term, I will hence forth not be using it.
