I would've liked 35mm f/2 (equiv.) lens instead

I think the trio of primes is best starting line-up of any mirrorless cameras, but I would've liked 35mm equiv f/2. X100 has it built-in, so it would've been easier to make. Besides, obviously Fuji thought it's the most useful focal length. I wonder what made them to choose 27mm equiv instead.

My most used lens is M43 20mm (40mm equiv.) f/1.7, 35-40mm range just works for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. . . . ^^

Fuji doesn't want to cannibalize sales of X100 which is still going pretty strong.
I'm sure once production of X100 ends, Fuji will introduce 35mm equivalent lens.

I'd guess fuji's stake on X-pro is far greater than that of X100. So It's short-sighted to delay popular lens just to sell a few more X100. 23mm f/2 is slated to be announced in 2013, according to lens roadmap.

I agree. It would have helped me decide if I should keep the x100 after I get the xpro1.

I think it's announced to be coming out in a 2013.

still, 16mp at 27mm is pretty close to 12mp at 35mm.

There were people that thought the 23mm f/2 lens on the X100 is too short.

It's true, controling DOF with the X100, it's not easy.

The 35mm f/1.4 will be sharp at f/2, and the DOF will be narrow.

Why make the same group of people happy that they did last time, while still offering nothing to the other group ?

the 23 mm is indeed on the roadmap.

I love the crop factor at the long end, I hate it in the wide range

any chance that third party makers would produce a 35mm (equiv)?

Sigma already produces m4/3 lenses, and they have a quite good (although bulky) 24 F2.
Or this X mount will be just Fuji's business?

As stated: Fuji will make the 35mm (equiv).

I am not quite shure other lenses will make it right on the camera. (even if they are great on other cameras).
Shure, I hope so. My 3-pack for the Contax G could save me a lot of money.....

Canon since 1959, a Finepix X100.......and a F10 just in case ;-)

I'm looking at the same situation and thinking that the focal length on the X100 is both my favorite and most used. For 1/3 of my shooting the X100 is all the digital that I need. For another 1/3 I need better autofocus and/or manual focus, neither of which is promised in the X-Pro1.. at least not a major improvement. The last 1/3 is needing wider, or longer lenses. Since the XPro-1 is expensive, I'll wait for a camera system that fills the other 2/3rds of my shooting requirement and then the expense will represent good value. The added image quality is really not a major plus over the X100 in that I have yet to print over 13x18 and I really like what the X100 has to offer and I prefer to crop before pressing the shutter release.

My plan is to carry both cameras. With the 27mm equivalent and the 53mm equivalent, it is a matter of a couple of steps back or a couple of steps forward—or just use the X100. X100 silence and flash-fill at up to 1/2000th is reason enough to keep the X100 as my carry everywhere camera. The X-Pro1 will be my urban walkin'-'round, shootin'-stuff kit.

The D700 will still be there for zoom lenses, super-wide, interval timer and many other uses. Any time I am primarily working out of a car, the D700 is no problem. However, the X-Pro with three lenses only weighs 967g while the D700 body alone is 995g. When extreme focal lengths are not needed and I am spending a day on foot, the X-Pro1 and X100 will be very welcome.

Fuji has the 23mm (= 35mm eq. FOV) on the roadmap for next year.

If in a hurry, you could put a beautiful Leica 21 or 24 Summilux on it in the meantime... Not that I would, but you could. :P

It's not that simple. You have to worry about distortion of wide angle (27mm), unflattering for portraits.

As an X100 owner, I've thought hard about how to get an X-Pro 1 without replacing my X100. There is too much that the X100 does right to get rid of it. The small size, the silence, the flash sync; none of that can be done by the X-Pro 1.

The thought of carrying both the X100 and X Pro 1 was considered. However, that just seems to wreck everything good about the X100. There is nothing like being out and about photographing with just the X100. It is such a light, free, and exhilarating experience. Totally unhindered. Having an X-Pro 1 either on a strap or in a bag would severely, if not totally ruin that experience. Then the X100 becomes just another camera.

Not at all an attractive option. Perhaps doable if the X Pro 1 were the same size as the X100. Maybe. But not when it is larger and heavier.

Aww, don't fret- Like everyone else has already stated, a 23mm f2 will be available next year, as well as a 28mm f2.8 pancake.

Personally, with the 18mm F2.0, 35mm F1.4 and 60mm F2.4 available immediately, I could care less. Imo, the 35mm f1.4 is more than generous of them.
f1.4 has me all warm & fuzzy inside :D

it look that often someone is dumb in marketing departments....

really crazy for me ....the 35mm its actually what was the 50mm in the Cartier Bresson times...the CLASSIC universal lens...

street photographer, reportage photograhers..ecc ecc its just perfect 35mm

anyway its dumb jump from 27mm to 53!! (53...????? not 50mm)

50mm its still usable....but 3mm its a big difference for me......

and on the other side the crazy 27mm (not 28 but 27mm...) sure not a universal lens

anyway i will not buy a fuji for the lack of the "normal" lens...for me was enough a 35 or even a 40mm or a 32mm
but 27 and 53?????incredible

ps anyway i m a reportage photographer so lack of 35mm lens is a big problem, 53mm dont give enough wide field and context, 27mm is too wide sometimes

It would be a long wait anyway, with a list of over a year for any Summilux.

I´m actually silently hoping for the new Fuji coming as F1.4 next year. ;)

Well said Rattymouse, my thoughts exactly.

The X100 has re-invigorated me and my photography. I was getting jaded after 8 years of shooting only with dSLRs. Now I want to go shoot stuff!

I would have liked that too. Very much and if Fuji had came up with an X100 with 35 mm I would have bought it in a sec.
