For the computer geek with everything

I would be lost without a scroll wheel/middle button, and optical mice are so much nicer to use, especially since you don't have to keep cleaning the rollers (since there are none).
I got one of these for Christmas. Someone on another forum wanted
to take a look so I posted a photo and also the link to Macy's
where you can get them.

from a store in the Federated chain. If you have one locally, you
might find one there.

Yes, it's not too practical, but I guess I'll have to use it since my friend visits occasionally. I have an optical to use with my laptop and my regular mouse had the dial in the center. I didn't use it a lot.

Juli, you are soooo lucky!! (o: But I wanna know..... does it come in a "Scroll Mouse" ? That one didn't have that little wheel that I've become so dependent upon.. hee-hee.. Hope your Holidays are great ones!
Regards,
MaryB

No, it doesn't have the scroll wheel. I've never gotten dependent on it so it won't bother me. I use it occasionally.

I use the scroll wheel constantly to scroll up and down in apps, especially the web browser when I'm reading the DPReview forums.

Also, in Mozilla, which is the browser I use (v1.2.1), clicking a link with the middle mouse button (aka. wheel) opens the link in a new tab, and middle-clicking a tab closes it again. If you haven't tried Mozilla, or tabbed browsing, it's the best thing since scroll wheels :-)

Yeah, I must admit I had the same thought (no scrollwheel, possbily not optical) about the mouse too.

And you can also configure it so that control + the scrollwheel increases or decreases the font size.

Eric, you said exactly the things I had in mind. ;-)

Optical mice with scroll wheels are one of those things that once I've gotten my hands on I can't imagine living without one. (Okay, a bit of exaggeration here but hey.)

I use Mozilla, too. I love its tabbed browsing as well as the grouped bookmarks feature. I visit a few photo/web logs and it's so convenient to just have to click on one bookmark icon to launch several sites in tabbed windows. I really suggest anyone who hasn't try it to give it a shot.

Mozilla is great. And I haven't even found out everything it can do yet. I love the pop-up blocking. The new 1.3 version will have spam filters too, which will be cool. You do have to add the spell checker seperately (though it is very simple to do), but I think they are going to include it in the default install soon.

Yes, to me, it's not a mouse if it doesn't have a scroll wheel. When I started my new job, the mouse they had for me didn't have a scroll wheel, but fortunately, they have a box full of mice, so I found a decent one. Unfortunately, it's not optical, but that's not as critical.

Maybe I'll buy myself an optical mouse for work. You can get a "Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical" for about $20. That's what I have at home. I've even seen generic optical wheel mice for $5 at MicroCenter in Fairfax, VA.
"No scroll wheel"... I'd go nuts!

AS nice as that is i would not give up my 5 button optical mouse for anything. My mouse buttons are all programmed to do different things depending what application I happen to be running. This is truly a feature I don't know how I got along without. Maybe I can have my optical mouse chrome plated? I do like the way that looks. Seasons Greetings!

It also has a scroll wheel, which is also programmable. I never click on anything while I'm out here, I don't ever have to move the mouse. You gotta get one of these.

well, my boyfriend has an infrared wireless..top of the technology :)

If i switch his mouse even for a golden plated..he will be quite upset!

The thing with a mouse is that it's quite personal. You have to be comfortable with it. I have small hands and i use the small mouse meant for laptop!
This one is silver plated, Daniella.

It was a gift from someone who is occasionally is a visitor to my house. I guess I could change it for my other mouse when she wasn't visiting, but it's a hassle dragging the CPU and all of the scrambled wires out to change it.

Happy 2003 to you and all.
