Hi all!
I want to get a new p&s camera for my sister's birthday.

I have the Canon PowerShot SD880 IS and I like it: IMHO it's a great camera and it's fit for me. I'm looking for a camera like the SD880, but it's discontinued.
What camera could I give to my sister?
Any suggestion? Thanks in advance for your help

Depends on your budget really.

I gave my kid sister a Panasonic Lx5.
She loves it.

It takes great pictures and (just as important for her) looks somewhat retro cool.

Ken Rockwell had this to say about your own camera:

"The Canon SD880 was my very favorite pocket digital camera from fall 2008 though summer 2009, when it was discontinued. (As of Fall 2009, get the new Canon S90 instead)."

Of course, now the S90 has been superceded by the S95 and now the S100. Here is Rockwell's suggestion:

"The S100 adds a broader zoom range and GPS, and a host of the usual fluff. Otherwise, it's mostly the same as the S95 as far as photographers are concerned. Higher-resolution HD and GPS doesn't really matter, unless of course those particular features are important to you."

This really depends on budget - the S100, LX5, & ZX-1 are probably the best out there (without going into things like the X1 or X100), but they are pricey.

Good point. The OP had asked about something similar to his own camera, a high quality Canon model, so a newer, higher-end Canon seemed appropriate. For my own pocket-sized camera needs, I'm happy with a Ricoh CX3 (love the step-zoom and electronic leveling features), and the newer CX5 is available from Amazon for just $219, but I don't think it's very much like the OP's camera.

The S100, LX5, & ZX-1 are very pricey. My budget is 200-250-300$ (max)

I'm looking for a camera with good IQ, manual controls aren't indispensable because my sister is a newbie, but a friendly interface and good auto mode are essential
The S100, LX5, & ZX-1 are very different from the SD880

What do you think about the Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS?
And about the Canon ELPH 310 HS or Canon ELPH 300 HS?
