Here are a few photos I took today with the SX40 HS. The camera has a lot more functions than I am used to, so I am going to have a bit of a learning curve with this camera. These do have some light post processing but nothing that really changed the image much. Thanks for looking.

This Hairy Woodpecker was maybe 50 feet or so away. Using the telephoto is going to be my biggest challenge. I haven't figured the image stabilization out at all. I cropped this a bit, but I think it is the only image I cropped. I will probably have to use a tripod to get any good long distance shots.

This is hail from a January storm a couple of nights ago that hasn't all melted yet. I think the camera handled the white balance well here. This was in the shade. No sharpening was used.

These are rose quartz rocks.

Daffodils coming up in January. I like using the EVF most but here I used the LCD screen to get a lower view without having to lay down in the wet grass. The articulated screen is really nice and I think that I will use it a lot this coming summer.

These flower pots were shot using the 1.5X digital zoom -- no particular reason, just experimenting. I had to use manual mode here to get color on the dark pots and not have a washed out background. Maybe there is some other way to do this but I don't know how.

Looks like you already have the hang of it. Nice images.

I'm in the same boat as you. Bought my SX40 about 5 days ago. Found it very reasonable in getting used to the controls and really like all the on camera buttons without going to the menus. And as you've already found out, it takes nice images. Some talented forum members have posted many as well. If you haven't already done so, check out my thread "Added an SX40 along with my S100" for some additional information and discussion with other members. Hope you find something helpful.

Great photos, I especially like the 1st one :) I have recently bought the sx40 too and am very pleased so far, it's a lot of fun to use, and I have just got a 270ex flash for it, which works great! enjoy your new camera :)

Thanks for the comments.

I have been following your thread "Added an SX40 along with my S100" and have learned some things that I want to look into. I enjoyed seeing your photos.

Hi Stef,

So far, so good! I believe that the learning curve involved with a new camera is truly the most enjoyable time!

Like most everyone here, I've owned a few cameras over the years and it's always fun learning their individual behaviors and capabilities. I especially enjoy using the SX40, mostly for nature photography, and I hope you'll enjoy yours as well! I'ts a really nice camera!

Kind regards,

Tony
