Best strap solution?

I am currently using the neck strap that came with my E-PL3 which is sort of ok. In all cases, the camera has been carried in a bag - either Think Tank Retrospective 5 or a small shoulder bag depending on the number of lenses I want to carry.

Last weekend, we went for a night skiing trip and wanted to take the body + 20mm lens, but I couldn't. I didn't want to take any bag with me so it had to fit in my jacket pocket but with that long neck strap attached to the body, it is incredibly inconvenient. I ended up taking my LX3 and you guessed it, I ended up with bunch of grainy shots, shot at ISO800 or blurry shots at ISO400. I don't want to permanently switch to wrist straps since during long hikes, neck straps actually work very nicely.

So what do you guys use?

If I can find something that would allow me to change between neck and wrist strap instantly, that would be the best solution by far.

love this on my 5d.

Use with slighstrap - http://camdapter.com/shoulderstrap/slingstrap.html

which is removable if you want a neckstrap for a hike.

Seems like some good quality quick-connects could be the answer. Quick clip on and off the neck strap and exchange it for a wrist strap.

I still need to get a wrist strap for my camera!

Still looking for the best solution myself. I'm currently using a Lowepro Transporter strap as the one that came with the camera was too short to wear bandolier style.

I've removed the neck pad and memory card pouch as the pad did nothing to stop slipping and the the pouch was unnecessary. Essentially I'm left with a piece of 3/4" nylon webbing with quick release attachments. It'll do for now.

Thanks for the suggestions.

These look high quality and appropriate for something like 5d but looks like an overkill for a tiny body + tiny lens. I don't think I will be using the wrist strap for anything more than E-PL3 + either 20mm or 14mm pancakes. I am basically looking for a wrist strap that is so tiny that I can hold the camera + strap in my outer upper pocket easily. Anything that will prevent me from dropping the camera on the floor will be fine. I certainly don't want to do this while taking shots on the ski lift! :)

Almost anything will do for the neck strap although comfort will be a plus here since sometimes I do use 100-300mm lens which is not small.

The key thing here is to be able to switch between them easily...

Hard to picture this in my head. Could you point me to some visual representation to this? :)

Ouch. Not exactly a perfect solution!

I have this - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bower-Camera-Neck-and-Wrist-Strap-Kit/17179669

I like the wrist strap. Haven't used the neck strap.
I was actually looking at this too. I haven't checked it out in person though.

Are those clips easy to use? If I'm looking at it right, I believe you keep the short hanging portion with the camera all the time and flip between the two strap solutions via the clip?

I am somewhat concerned with the neck strap though, I'm afraid it won't hold E-PL3 + 100-300mm + Raynox combo.

You might look at the Domke Gripper. The strap is a soft woven material, much better than the scratchy polyester stock strap. The strap ends attach with swivel clips, so you can quickly remove the long strap and it converts to a hand strap. The strap also doesn't tangle, because it's on a swivel.

The 1" is perfect for Micro-4/3, 1.5" is better for a larger camera. Personally I like the tan one.

For skiing I used to use a shoulder bag but now I use a GoPro Hero HD. The still photos are not very good, but it's convenient. The HD video is excellent.

May be too small for that combo. Checkout optechusa.com. They may have what you need.

I agree about the Domke gripper straps. I too use the 1" tan strap on my E-P2, and I use the 1.5" black and blue straps on my DSLRs.

For wrist strap, I use an OPtech/USA SLR wrist strap, which has a quick release, and it is fairly easy to attach. I just got some clasps with swivels, and I intend to use one to covert the SLR wrist strap to having a swivel connection.

I have a 60's vintage leather Leica strap that I use for my E-P1 which really works very well. It is super relaxed leather so it wraps up around the body nice and tight to fit into my small messenger bag, would definitley fit in a pocket wrapped up. It is about 1/2" wide. I just wrap it around my wrist when I need a wrist strap. It took a lot of searching to find one on ebay but it works and looks great.

I prefer the principle of sling straps: A long loop of webbing that goes across your chest, allowing the camera to hang at your side. Just slide the camera up the webbing to bring it to eye level. The sling method takes the entire weight of the camera off your neck, and easily allows a strap long enough to go over winter clothing. The problem with most slings, though, is that they preclude the use of a tripod--their attachment system requires the tripod socket.

Now, sadly the exact sling I use is no longer available due to a competing company getting a patent filed before Luma Labs did, in spite of there being no grounds for the patent, because the same principle was being used by the US Army for rifle slings in the late 1800s. But I digress.

I like this one here, which has a similar principle to a sling and can be attached to any quick release plate that accepts a camera strap (lots of arca swiss-type plates do), but it's pricey and possibly overbuilt for micro four thirds: http://luma-labs.com/products/cinch

Of the slings I could find in a cursory Google search, I think I like this one the most: http://www.bosstrap.com/
