well I am sick of waiting for Sony so broke down and blew $1700 on a new one from a dealer in S. Korea on ebay. Does anybody know what the import duties/hassles will be on this? I'm pretty happy with my C3 but about to embark on a long vacation so wanted an NEX-7 to take too. Hopefully this won't be a total ripoff....

i just did the same thing from the same sellers (i think).
my luck is that sony will actually fill my order tomorrow!

regarding customs, my guess is that the package will arrive at your door and it will be up to you to report the item to customs so they can charge you a tax or import duty. likely wont happen automatically.

does anyone have any other experience with similar purchases?

thanks
chris

Oh did you buy it three minutes after me tonight? I think they were the only ones less than $2500! The dealer seems nice from his emails and shipped it right after my PayPal (well I have a tracking # at least) so hopefully all will go well.

I never did a pre-order so it seemed unlikely to get one without the "premium".

Anyway it seems a camera body from Korea shipped post office/EMS/USPS is possibly duty-free. Or it may get a 4.3% tariff, which would be $73 on a $1700 body, so not too horrible.

yea, sounds like the same site.....thanks for the customs details.

they seem to be good sellers.

if others are interested, they said they plan to have more in stock in 1-2 days and will post on ebay again.

good luck with the camera.

hooray! (& thanks, I've been gouged enough on the "NEX-7 supply & demand premium" ;-)

personally I would be afraid of ordering from South Korea - there was a guy on here who got a 5n from Japan and he said it didnt have have English as an option for the menus.

Just ordered from DigitalRev and cancelled my pre-order from Sony UK. Touch wood it should be waiting for me when I arrive back in Singapore next week.

that's odd, maybe it's a Japan thing, because the ebay advert showed a screen for selecting the language:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230733571370

and this matches my "US domestic" NEX-C3 which I bought at Best Buy last month (i.e. a "Language" selection option between "Beep" and "Date/Time Setup" on the Setup menu off of the main menu).
